Trou aux Cerfs
Begin your 7-8 hours southwest scenic tour with a hotel pick-up anywhere in Mauritius. You will meet & be greeted by our certified guide and after boarding to your comfortable vehicle, then set off for your first stop. You'll be heading to Trou Aux Cerfs which is one of the famous natural tourist attractions in Mauritius. The dormant volcanic crater is around 605 meters above sea level, with a diameter of 350 meters & a depth of around 100 meters. Unlike the typical volcanic features, Trou aux Cerfs’ crater is surrounded by a vast area of lush forest consisting of indigenous plant species and some giant green pine trees. It is believed that the Trou aux Cerfs erupted once and has remained dormant for the last 700 000 years; experts believe that there is a potential chance for it to become active again. Definitely, one of the main highlights is the 360-degree view of the town, Curepipe & the majestic view of Rempart Mountain, Trois Mamelles, and the Port-Louis- Moka mountain range.
Afterward, head to Mare Aux Vacoas reservoir which has the honor of being the largest reservoir on the island with a capacity of almost 26 million cubic meters and is simultaneously a rather popular stop for tourists visiting the south of the island. Although nothing as fancy as the other attractions in Mauritius, Mare aux Vacoas is a gem hidden between lines of thick forests. It is the perfect place to spend a relaxing few minutes away from the usual hustle and bustle of the country. The reservoir even offers a rather amazing view worth several clicks.

FYI--know your itinerary and make your guide stick to it. This was a private tour and the guide said we were in charge but it was clearly the other way around. We should have been weary when the guide asked US what tour we were on. He immediately said there was no time for the 3-course lunch part of the tour and he said his boss said he had to be back by 3 and we had to allow 1.5 hours to get back to the ship from the last location. The trip started at 8:30 so we had plenty of time to do the 8-hours tour and be back to the ship by 5 pm. We were returned at 2 pm and the driver seemed rushed at that. He did drive safely though. This is what we did get: Tea at a tea plantation View of Shiba This is what we didn't get 2 of the national parks Colored sands Multiple waterfalls Rum tasting in the proper place INSTEAD after the Shiba he brought us to Vale Adventure Park (not a national park) which was an additional cost of $150 and 2 hours which surprised us because we were at least 40-50 years older than all the other tourists (not a natural fit nor did we request this). We ended up at a small neighborhood souvenir shop which also had some rum. He mentioned at the beginning that "if we had time at the end" we could go to a souvenir shop. We said we weren't interested in more souvenirs but that's where he brought us. We've done many tours around the world with TripAdvisor and this was the only one that disappointed us.

Driver was 20 minutes late. Didn't know the Rumery was closed after 2pm, due to a wedding. Just did the tasting. Never got to see the Tea Plantation Museum, Just the tea tasting again . Never stopped to take pictures at the temple. we were just rushed from one place to another. Could have been a really nice tour, but the driver has lot to learn to make it an enjoyable tour

Our driver was on time and a careful driver. We were told all the stops we would visit and told about any interesting points. We would have liked the tour to be more flexible as to what we saw as it did feel a little as though the schedule was mapped out and no deviation. We did though cover an awful lot and saw all the sights there were to see. The driver was pleasant and knowledgeable.

Tour of the island very succinct, not all the views noted on the announcement were made (half for us) the driver is supposed to guide, ours stayed in his car without explaining much to us, to finish visit the rum not made because we arrived too late ... Response of the trip advisor claim,(as we feel we have done only half of what is notified) We are not able to refund you The best thing to do is to find a taxi there that will guide you and take you to see every point for MUCH less!

Good informative guide. Again, is lunch necessary? I know it supports local restaurants but wastes usually an hour and a half in my view.
