Paella was born here in Valencia—and this hands-on cooking class teaches you the real recipe, not the tourist version. Learn to make traditional Valencian paella with meat and vegetables, the way local families have cooked it for generations. No shortcuts. Just authentic technique from Valencian chefs who grew up making it.
Your experience starts at Ruzafa Market, a neighborhood gem where locals shop for fresh ingredients—far from the crowds of Central Market. Then, join our small-group workshop to master the secrets: achieving the perfect socarrat (the prized crispy rice crust), using Albufera rice from Valencia's own fields, and balancing saffron like a pro.
While your paella simmers, enjoy a sangria-making workshop and sample traditional tapas. Then sit down to feast on your creation with local wine, salad, mistela, and homemade dessert.

We will meet at the door of San Valero Parish. We will go to the Ruzafa market together and we will make the purchase of the fresh products necessary to cook a good paella. While we are making the purchase we will tell you the origin of the paella and customs and culture of the Valencian people. Later we will walk for 8 minutes to reach the kitchen where we will hold a sangria workshop. The chef will be waiting us with some delicious tapas accompanied by sangria, beer, water ... Then our chef will explain step by step the preparation of the authentic valencian paella (traditional meats) and once finished we will sit down to taste it. We will accompany the paella with a Valencian tomato salad, Valencia wines, seasonal fruit, typical Valencian sponge cake, sweet wine and coffee.

Honestly, I don’t know how to say how amazing this was! This is my first time in Spain and Guillermo, Nico, and Ana were the most amazing teachers and hosts. Our food ended up tasting amazing. The hospitality, the sangrias, the market tour, and even just the information they gave us was worth every Euro! I wanna do it all over! Thank you Spain and thank you My First Paella!

A thorough enjoyable experience. We were made to feel very welcome. Our hosts were friendly & professional throughout, providing delicious tapas, sangria and wine with the finished paella we helped to cook. We were recommended this experience by friends and so pleased we were able to include this in our short break to València.

This was such a fun class! I don't eat seafood, so I was happy to find a paella class that cooked a traditional Valencian paella with chicken and rabbit (and even snails!). The instructors were great at making sure everyone was involved and the finished product was fantastic.

What an amazing experience! We got to meet other people of vacation and chat about the world! The paella was also unbelievably delicious! … the bottomless sangria didn’t hurt either.
