The Big Tree
Travellers visiting the Big Tree near Victoria Falls can expect to encounter one of the most remarkable natural landmarks in Zimbabwe—a majestic baobab (Adansonia digitata) that stands as a testament to the region’s rich history and biodiversity. The Big Tree towers at approximately 24 meters (79 feet) in height with a girth of about 22 meters (73 feet), making it one of the largest baobabs in the world. Estimated to be between 1,500 and 2,000 years old, this ancient tree has witnessed centuries of human and natural history. While David Livingstone carved his name into a different baobab on Garden Island, the Big Tree stands near the site where he made landfall in 1855, adding historical depth to its presence. Nearby, visitors can find a curio market offering local crafts and souvenirs.

My friend and I went this morning, got picked up on time, told about the history and geography & then were guided through the falls. We went at our own pace, including lots of stops for photos and videos, and every question was answered. Highly recommend doing the 6am tour for beautiful light and very few people/crowds.

Extremely poor service, I initially thought I was scammed when the service provider did not respond when I phoned. Sent emails and WhatsApp messages to no response for 5hrs. Two hours later post the planned tour which never happened someone phoned, blaming WiFi that they are very sorry and reschedule for the following day. Disappointed to cut the story short. However, I suppose this's just one in every million and I happen to be the unlucky one.

Sublime walk at sunrise, allowing you to see the various views of the waterfall and admire the magnificent rainbow that forms in the morning. It’s worth getting up early (some competitors only offer a visit from 8am). Our guide Romeo was great, we learned a lot. The fact that it is private allows me to go at his own pace. One of the best activities of our stay, I recommend!

It's no wonder this is a World Heritage Site; its nearly 2 km-long cascading waterfall showcases the power and beauty of nature. A very pleasant experience made even better by the explanations from our guide, Romeo, who was very kind and patient with children. Highly recommended.
