They are not at the dock to get you, if you schedule this on your own. You therefore have to schedule this on your own. Victoria is not within a quick walking distance (30 min). Taxi is the most reasonable because they will get you closure to your exact spot. Where the bus for the same $$ drops you off at a location and then you still have to find your excursions. Otherwise they do know their whales and we saw many. You are on a boat with an enclosure but it is still windy and waves can be big that splash water.

It wa a great day weather was cooperating but on the water for a little cold while travelling. Go to see some whales after along search of the area.
