I highly recommend hiking Santa Ana Volcano in El Salvador to see its unique crater lake. the crater lake view is very much worth the accessible hike up. You also get a great view of Volcan de Izalco while climbing up.

The whole experience was amazing. Fernando was kind and patient towards the whole group. We reached the summit without any problems and later, after descending, we went to a beautiful spot in front of Coatepeque’s lake to have lunch.

If you can make it to the top, it is worth it. Be ware, if you suffer from altitude sickness do not go. The volcano is 7, 812' high at the crater - I was only 75% up the hike when I got sick, and there was a gentlemen at 50% that also experienced the altitude sickness. The guides do not tell you that. The hike is easy but steep, so unless you are in decent shape or plan on taking a long time to climb do not attempt. I went with my family group of 4, we got the private tour for $40. I didn't make it to the top but the rest of my group did. Oh, at the entrance of the trail they charge to use the bathroom but if you can hold it, use the bathrooms at the beginning of the trail they are free - but they don't tell you that. The lake is pretty, we only had lunch and hit the road. The food was excellent - we ate at El Faro restaurant.

The views are magnificent, it is very satisfying to reach the top after a tired walk. It's worth it! To get there you can take a bus from San Salvador which would drop you off at the detour to the park area.

The tour was very well organised. Fernando was absolutely amazing with his historical facts about Salvador, the volcanos and also things to do in Salvador. He was prompt on time for pickup and also took great care of us. The hike up the volcano was challenging but worth it.
