Our guide Claudette was simply exceptional. Please appreciate that she is a trained historian, so you can rely on her information to be concise, accurate and factual. Her grasp of the people, the places and the dates that created the Barbados we now know is exceptional. She really makes Bajan history come to life. Between Claudette's anecdotes, her animated and engaging presentation style and the sweet treats we enjoyed along the way, the day spent with her was completely captivating. We have travelled the world and her tour ranks among the very best. Not to be missed.

This was an awesome experience. Our guide, Claudette, made it so. Her historical knowledge and ability to communicate it were phenomenal. She probably only scratched the surface of her knowledge but what she told us was so very interesting. She wove political, social, economic, religious and historical information together to give us an overall flavor of Barbados and Bridgetown for the past (nearly) 500 years. She was very passionate about the history. It was amazing the number of people we passed on the streets that knew her. The local treat and juice were a wonderful bonus.

This was a fantastic way to spend a morning. Claudette first made us feel welcome and valued, then blew our minds with the scope of Barbados's place in British Imperialism, the transatlantic slave trade, and the story of Black resistance to colonial structures. As a descendent born of two proud Bajans I was able to make sense of things my parents had described through the context Claudette supplied. Things as simple as the coat of arms suddenly made sense. As Claudette described ships careening in Bridgetown I could almost see my grandfather hard at work a full century ago. We were treated to delicious snacks, shown as much history as two hours could contain, then provided with tailor-made recommendations for whatever else we intended to accomplish after we parted. Thoroughly enjoyed, and happily recommended.

Terrific and in-depth 3 hour walking tour overview of how Barbados has evolved over the centuries. Their talented resident historian shared lots of interesting and well researched / well told moving stories - ranging between serious topics (settlements, slavery, religious freedom and the effects of WW1 and economic / innovation & educational improvements on the island) to more lighthearted experiences - strolling the town markets amongst the locals whilst sampling local culinary treats. Our takeaways - Barbados is vibrant, fast changing and has enormous potential. We loved it!

Amazing tour, Claudette's historical knowledge was exceptional. Her connection with the community was awesome to see as well, from the fruit stands we stopped at to the many hello's and waves she received along the walk. I appreciated how she took us from a big picture historical context down to the personal stories of real historical figures; it really helps you consider the complexity of history. The tour ended up being a good 3hr, so if you are conscious of timing give yourself some cushion. Although you should do that anywhere on this gorgeous island anyway :)

Claudette's passion and knowledge made this a stand out tour and brought Barbados and Bridgetown to life through the centuries. It was never hurried and questions and conversation were encouraged at all times.

We had great visit with Claudette, our guide who is a historian who brings the history and social evolution of Bridgetown to life. Walking through old Bridgetown allowed us to appreciate the activity and history amongst the old buildings and narrow streets, hundreds of years old. Truly a Unesco world heritage site. Tasting local fish cakes, fruit fresh juice through the tour is a nice touch. We highly recommend!

This was absolutely outstanding. Claudette teaches and studies history and her passion for the subject, and her passion for her nation, shone throughout the tour. Her knowledge was phenomenal, and she delivered human stories with charm and humour. She engaged with the difficult reality of enslavement, without making the conversation difficult. As she said ‘I wasn’t here, and nor were you. We haven’t done anything wrong!’ I could have listened to her for hours, as it was 3.5 hours passed in a flash. Definitely my favourite thing I have done in Barbados
