The Quiet Man Film Locations Walking Tour is a must for fans of the John Wayne classic, The Quiet Man. The guided tour brings visitors to the original film locations including Inisfree, Castletown, the Pat Cohan's Bar, the Dying Man's House, the Reverend Playfair's House, the fight scenes, the courting scenes and the "patty fingers in the holy water" scenes.
Visitors hear: what happened when Hollywood invaded the sleepy village of Cong in 1951; what the film stars were like; how they interacted with the locals; and how the locals became intimately involved in the making of the movie.
The tour includes entrance to The Quiet Man Museum. Visitors can dress up in costume for photos and re-enactments. A great interactive experience full of good old Irish craic.
The walking tour and museum entry last approximately 1 hour. The tour consists of a short, easy stroll around the village of Cong with stops every few minutes at the movie locations.

The Quiet Man is one of my all time favorite movies. I selected more Ireland tour specifically because we would be staying in Ashford Castle, a brief walk from Cong and the Quiet Man filming sites. I later found out that the tour and museum close in September and was very disappointed. However, I emailed the museum and they responded promptly with an offer of a private tour. No, it wasn’t cheap, but not outrageous. The tour itself was “grand”, as they say in Ireland. I was thrilled to see so many filming sites in addition to the replica cottage and artifacts from the film. Gerry was knowledgeable and charming. If you are also a fan of the film, do this tour! And do contact them in advance if you’re traveling in the off season.

For those of us who appreciate Ford’s masterpiece, this visit is essential. Lisa wrote the guide 12 years and 30 years later, her father, Gerry, continues to bring this exciting experience to life. They are the owners of a museum that houses unique pieces, such as Mary Danaher’s dress, the bed they break at the Thorntons’ house, the fishing rod with which Father Lonergan almost fished for King Salmon or a multitude of newspapers of the time with articles about the shooting. Gerry is a charming man who has memorized every scene and dialogue (invites you to play them), meets and introduces you to the descendants of the extras, with whom you cross the village, takes you to a lot of recognizable corners and tells you a lot of anecdotes. His nephew manages the Cohan pub, which apart from the facade, has nothing to do with the one in the film, but is eaten quite well. YOU CAN'T MISS IT.

This was so fun! I went with a friend who is a big Maureen O'Hara fan- I have only seen this movie once but the tour was enjoyable all the same! The guide was excited about the subject matter and had fun little anecdotes about the cast & crew. Several of the locals are descendants of the people who were involved with the shoot at the time and the town of Cong itself is just adorable. Even the drive out to Cong from Galway was pleasant. This tour ended up being one of the highlights of my trip.

Excellent walking tour of The Quiet Man village with a knowledgeable, experienced, and humorous guide. We learned a lot about the filming and the villagers that were involved in its production. Now we have to go back and watch the film again to see all the scenes from an enlarged perspective.
