About Swakopmund City Tour Travel Time has put together a splendid city tour of Swakopmund for interested visitors to this wonderful city. Experienced and knowledgeable guides will take you through an exploration of Swakopmund's colourful history. The tour takes you along the townships, through to the luxurious beachfront homes.
Provides a well-organised tour with a local guide Nande Junias that reflects the history of the Mondesa Township. Mondesa was established in the early 1950's to provide housing for blacks working in Swakopmund. The tour is designed as a part of living history, moving from the Owambo areas to those inhabited by Damara and Herero. At each stop a bit of culture, a bit of history and a great deal of laughter are shared. Guests will also get the chance to learn about traditional dress, see a demonstration of mahango preparation, taste some traditional Oshiwambo food and drink, visted the DRC kindergarden and enjoy children dancing. Each customized tour last 2-3 hours with the aim of immersing visitors in township life and introducing people to the local customs and traditions.

If you’re willing to book this tour despite the reviews saying he’s a no-show like I was, I recommend emailing a few days ahead to increase your chances of a response and get your full refund the day before if you don’t hear anything. Not only did he never show up, but when I requested a refund for him not showing up, he responded to Viator saying HE was the one to wait and WE never showed up! 🙄 Thankfully, after requesting an investigation and submitting all the screenshots of us attempting to contact him with no response, Viator gave me the full refunded amount back. We ended up with a separate Tour guide named Eugene completely separate from this booking and he even charged 30% less after all we went through! So that really made the day end on a high note instead of the low note it started on. We told him to try adding a profile to Viator because he really did make the whole fiasco worth it in the end, but as of me writing this he doesn’t have one so hopefully I can add an update later. In conclusion document everything, try contacting him early, and I hope your visit to Walvis Bay is a success fellow travelers! P. S. Call the number listed under the business information because even locals weren’t getting a ring so look out for that.

Wow, what an amazing day Frans gave us! Pick up at the port gate was easy and I have to say everybody that we encountered was as friendly and kind as could be. We had a cultural tour of Mondesa with stops at several houses of different tribes and met and heard from so many people! At one home we enjoyed trying several local foods after watching Rivonia sing and dance for us. We then toured Swakopmund, the sand dunes, Walvis Bay and a lagoon full of storks before heading back to port. Two of us travel with walkers and poc’s and this was very easy with minimal walking. Frans even found a smaller sand dune for me so I could climb up a short distance! Highly recommend this tour!

Guide was a no-show. Tuyani of Explorer Cultural Township Tours, local operator gave a non-existent phone number that was not reachable. Viator refused to refund. DON'T BOOK, IT'S A SCAM. There were 8 of us that were stood up.

Excellent guide who was friendly, knowledgeable and very informative. He had a nice clean car. We enjoyed our visits to locals in the townships and meeting the young people who sang for us.

We participated in this tour on our recent port day in Walvis Bay. We are so glad we did. It was a highlight of our entire cruise. We got to see the sights, meet several locals in a township tour, and visit the sand dunes. No words can adequately express our experience. It was amazing. I highly recommend this tour, and can’t speak more highly of Tuyeni and Frances as our guides. We felt comfortable and safe during the entire tour and hope to do it again!

Very good 👍 tour would recommend to all. There was a minor mixup as to the time because the ship 🚢 arrived early . The guide was very knowledgeable on all of the areas and went out of his way to be helpful. .
