What a wonderful daytrip! My guide, Patty, was very helpful and joined in every aspect of the tour. Upon arrival, be prepared to be greeted with song - and definitely join in the dance! Then you get a thorough introduction to the cultivation, washing, and preparation of coffee using old-school techniques that you’ll get to experience yourself hands-on. The result is a delicious cup, and wonderful vibes from the women farmers.

After traveling to Kigali for a work conference, my colleagues and I decided to book this tour and I’m so glad that we did! It was truly a once in a lifetime experience and you shouldn’t hesitate to book! Our guide was friendly and inviting and did such a great job answering our many questions about Rwanda and the coffee growing process. Once we arrived at the coffee plantation, we received a warm greeting with song and dance by the president of the co-op and some of the members. They walked us through the detailed process of growing and cultivating the coffee then took us to the coffee washing station about 20 minutes away and detailed the complete process after the fruit is harvested. It’s clear that these women are dedicated entrepreneurs and it was truly a privilege to learn about their work. We also had lunch at the Women’s Opportunity Center near Kayonza, and it was great to see the way they are aiding in the development of the community. Overall, it was such a great experience to get insight into the coffee industry and the role these women play in their communities. Also, after learning that Question Coffee has a location in D.C., I’m glad to have found a new coffee spot for me and my friends to support the work of these sustainable growers!

Forget anything else you’re thinking of spending time doing while in Rwanda. This experience is one of a kind. From the best coffee or tea to start the morning to the drive out to Tuk CoOp. Once there youre welcomed with song, dance, laughter and more before being taught the year+ long process of starting a coffee tree (it’s a surprise how they get started!) From there, travel to the washing station 20-min away on a bumpy road past communities and villages. Again song and dance followed by learning the process of washing, sorting, grading, drying, milling, roasting and finally sipping. Epic day. DO NOT THINK TWICE before booking this.

Do not miss this if you go to Rwanda! Coffee is one of the main pillars of the economy, and the work that this cooperative does is a global example of women empowerment, sustainability, and economic growth. The tour itself was also perfect. The guide was very patient with all my questions and made sure that I learned as much as possible. Question coffee are the undisputed leaders of quality Coffee in Rwanda. Give them a try!!!!
