After a short transfer from Kirkenes to the trailhead (about 30 minutes), travelers strap on snowshoes and embark on a scenic 4 - 5 hour round‑trip hike through frozen forests and hilly terrain, climbing roughly 200 meters of elevation with some steep sections. At the battery, they explore snow‑covered concrete structures, crumbling tunnels and rusted metal left from World War II, learning how Polish prisoners built the site as part of the Nazi defense system to block Allied ships.
