Shu Yuan Men ( Ancient Culture Street)
Step into the heart of Xi’an’s traditional arts scene. At Shu Yuan Men, you’ll stroll through a lively street filled with vendors selling Chinese name seals, calligraphy, and handcrafted souvenirs.
Your first hands-on experience begins here: Create your own personalized Chinese name seal — choose a lucky stone and design your unique seal to take home. Then, visit a UNESCO-recognized handcraft workshop, where you’ll choose one of three crafts to learn: Chinese shadow puppetry (Pick your favorite puppet design, color it, and take it home as a souvenir) Terracotta warrior molding (Make your own clay terracotta warrior using traditional molds) Lacquer Fan Painting & Stone Rubbing – Paint a beautiful lacquer fan and try traditional stone rubbing to create patterns from engraved surfaces. Each activity is taught by a local master artisan who will guide you step-by-step in making your own cultural keepsake.

My friends and I needed to fill up our last afternoon in Xi’an and found this tour — we loved it! Our guide’s name was Erin, she was super friendly and gave us historical background at every activity we did. We had plenty of time to take photos, ask questions, and watch the artisans make all different types of crafts on the street. The highlight for me was Xiangzi Temple area, where we had the best tea and local gelato. If you’re an English speaker planning to visit the beautiful city of Xi’an, I highly recommend booking this walking tour :)

I was nervous joining this tour because I haven't seen many reviews, but I'm so glad I did it! The tour guide is really nice and it was perfect for my friends and I who don't know any Mandarin or anything about China. We got a good feel of modern culture and historical practices too. Our tour guide is native to Xi'an and gave us lots of recommendations for other spots to hit up and good food recommendations too. I love my little terracotta warrior too lol
