Learning the ancient art of pottery from Zhour second generation potter. was an absolute joy. I was welcomed into her family home and learned by doing. Beginning with collecting clay from the ground then shaping into traditional pots cups and bowls. Then glazing from natural earth pigments. Finals firing. Every thing was from the land around. I totally enjoyed my time.

  • Ancient Wild Pottery in a Beautiful Rif Landscape

We had the most wonderful pottery experience with the artist Zhour in the Rif. It was truly unforgettable. Zhour guided us through the ancient technique of wild pottery, sharing with such generosity the wisdom that has been passed down through generations. We were able to witness and take part in the entire process – from collecting the clay in nature, preparing it, using natural pigments for decoration, to the final open-fire firing that gives each piece its unique soul. Beyond the artistry, what touched us most was Zhour’s kindness and hospitality. She welcomed us warmly and created an atmosphere of deep connection. The guide, Hicham, was equally kind and attentive, making the whole experience flow with ease and care. To complete these days, we enjoyed absolutely delicious food, which added another layer of warmth and authenticity to the experience. This was not just a workshop, but a direct encounter with the authentic culture of the Rif, lived and expressed in its most genuine form. We left with not only pieces of pottery, but also with a profound sense of gratitude and admiration for this tradition, for Zhour herself, and for the wonderful people who made this possible. An absolute must for anyone seeking a meaningful, authentic cultural experience.

  • The Magical Journey

Recently, I took a two-day traditional Rif pottery workshop with Zhour. It is a long-awaited journey that has finally been realized. I came to Rif expecting to learn about the culture, knowledge, and technique. Indeed, I did! But most beautifully, I got to know the wonderful lady Zhour and her family, who warmly welcomed me into her home and showed me her sincere quality as a person. I am lucky to witness the beauty of their life. I received much more than I expected. Therefore, I am so grateful and happy about this experience!

  • Outperforming all of our expectations

Sitting in Zhour's pottery place on top of the village Aïn Bouchrik, surrounded by the sound of donkeys, roosters and the muezzin calling to prayer was the perfect setting to indulge into the ancient handcraft of pottery making: collecting the clay, bringing it to the village on a donkey, sculpting, polishing, painting and finally openair firing. When working the clay, no Arabic words are needed to communicate with Zhour, the sublime, peaceful atmosphere is only interrupted by the delicious lunch at her family's table. When going home bags are packed not only with beautiful pieces but also with memorable encounters.

  • Loved our experience

It was a unique experience that my friend and I enjoyed. We had a good feeling about it from the beginning as communication with Hicham was excellent. He helped organise everything which included a return trip from Fez and accommodation at his home stay (additional cost but very reasonably priced and all meals included) As for the ceramic course itself, Zhour was a great teacher. It was interesting to experience the whole process from collecting the raw materials to the end products. We especially loved how sustainable everything was. In addition, the walk from Hicham’s home stay to Zhour’s place was incredibly scenic and full of animals and stunning nature, we thought that was a beautiful addition to our ceramic experience.
