This circuit, rich in natural curiosities and historical stories, makes you discover the city of São Filipe as well as the western side of the island. Stroll through the streets of one of the oldest cities in the country. The past is told there today through the architecture of the city and its “Sobrados”. Then recharge your batteries in Salinas, this natural pool formed by the meeting of the sea and the lava flows. You will also taste a typical drink of the country: the punch of "Calabaceira", the fruit of the baobab.

We did this as an add on to the “A day on FOGO Island to discover VOLCAN” by the same tour company, which was a great experience. Our guide Milton was wonderful and we had a fun day, but we paid extra for this experience and all we did was stop at the Salinas pool to see it and take pictures. We didn’t tour Sao Filipe and we didn’t get the complimentary Baobab fruit drink. I believe it was just a miscommunication by the tour operator, who didn’t inform Milton that we should be receiving the extra experience, but it was disappointing and not worth the extra cost. If you did this tour alone it would likely be a better experience but just be aware if you try to make this an add on to the “discover VOLCAN” tour. Also, be aware that you can only swim in the Salinas pool from April to November, according to our guide.

The island of Fogo has a stunning beauty, just like its neighbor Brava. A welcoming and dynamic people who love their island. Fantastic experience climbing the volcano. Definitely a repeat visit.

The trip showed a section of Fogo. Communication was difficult at times because our tour guide didn't speak English very well. The Salinas were impressive because the sea was very rough. Swimming would have been life-threatening. Coordinating the meeting point was difficult because the agency didn't respond to my emails straight away and you couldn't specify your own hotel when booking. I then had to go to the organizer in person.

When I stayed on Fogo Island for several months in 2019, I took part in this excursion. What was striking is how accurately the architecture reflects the history of the country. This volcanic island actually has a lot of interesting things to show: unique landscape due to the meeting between lava and sea. The guide will tell you better than I do! Finally, Salinas is really impressive and relaxing.
