Marvel at Iceland’s most famous waterfall, known for its impressive double cascade and stunning views.

DINNER
Dinner
We will serve the renowned traditional Icelandic lamb. Of course, we will also have delicious vegan/vegetarian options.
We are going to our favorite place, Þórsmörk Mountain Reserve, in our modified 4×4 Super Jeeps. To access this area you need to cross glacial rivers, so it’s not for the normal rental car. Þórsmörk (Thorsmork) means the valley of Thor (the Norse god). We, Icelanders, sometimes say it is our ‘happy place‘. It’s got everything: volcanic landscapes, not one but three glaciers, fun glacier river crossings, and rich history (from folk, elves and trolls and all the way to Game of Thrones). The number of interesting places is abundant, both in Þórsmörk and on our way there. By visiting Þórsmörk, you get to explore landscapes that capture the essence of Iceland’s rugged interior. Interestingly, most travelers stick to the Ring Road along the coast and miss out on these breathtaking scenes that hold a special place in the hearts of Icelanders.
Volcano Eyjafjallajokull
On our way to Þórsmörk we will have the chance to admire the stunning and infamous volcano Eyjafjallajökull.
Hvolsvollur
Oh, the beautiful Auroras! As always, the Midgard team will keep the group updated on the Northern Lights forecast for the night.
BREAKFAST
Breakfast
Delicious breakfast buffet at Midgard Restaurant.
LUNCH
Lunch
Solheimajokull Glacier
Today, we are going on a glacier adventure at Sólheimajökull Glacier. We will embark on a glacier ice walk, which is a unique experience allowing you to explore the glacier’s stunning ice formations, deep crevasses, and striking blue ice up close. Your professional Midgard guide will provide insights into the glacier’s formation, the impact of volcanic activity, and the effects of climate change. No prior experience is necessary; our guide will conduct a safety briefing to ensure everyone’s well-being.
Solheimajokull Glacier
One of the highlights of visiting Sólheimajökull is its glacier lagoon, a serene body of water at the base of the glacier, which offers impressive views of the glacier’s edge and the surrounding landscape. The lagoon’s tranquil waters reflect the glacier’s beauty, providing a unique perspective on this natural wonder. It’s a perfect spot for photography and a quiet moment of reflection.
Skogafoss
We also visit two of the most famous South Coast waterfalls: Skógafoss, known for its 60-meter drop and misty rainbows
Seljalandsfoss
We'll visit Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the waterfall for a breathtaking view from within a natural grotto. Please note, sometimes it’s not safe do go behind the waterfall. Your guide will assess if it’s safe to walk behind the waterfall during your visit.
Gljufrabui Waterfalls
We’ll also explore the hidden gem, Gljúfrabúi Waterfall, a lesser-known but equally stunning cascade.

Highly recommend! Alessandro picked us up along with eight others in Reykjavik and showed us the beautiful countryside, waterfalls and hidden gems. We also hiked into ice caves, glaciers, went to remote stops on 4 x 4 super jeeps and much more. So nice to stay at the Midgard base camp for the entire stay. We all departed in the morning returning for dinner. All meals are included and the Midgard staff (Gina) was consistently checking in to see if they could make our Iceland experience any better. We did eat our meals with the other guests on our tour which made us all feel connected. We even went to Aldi’s home for a visit so we could experience their lifestyle! Each night a staff member drove us to a location in order to see the Northern Lights. 10 out of 10 trip! Thanks for the great memories Midgard Staff!!!

Midgard isn’t just a place to stay, it’s an experience that feels like being with your family on another planet. My initial plan was to stay three nights (I did the 4 day Northern Lights tour) and it was so wonderful that I decided to stay two more days. I feel like it was the best decision I ever made. They have amazing tours, delicious food, landscapes that seem otherworldly and, above all, the best guides and the best care. Gina and Olga made me feel at home, and Ragnar, Disco, Magnus and Palmi were exceptional guides. Without hesitation, I would return to Midgard many times.

Don’t hesitate- book with Midgard! We just completed our 4-day aurora trip that began on March 8 and I want to state it was the best tour my mother and I have ever taken! The trip is thoughtfully planned for cultural and nature immersion. All staff from the front desk, to emails responded to by Tanya, to the restaurant/bar, to our guides were exceptionally dedicated to making our stay wonderful. The chefs were incredible and made some of the best food myself and my mother have ever eaten (especially the pierogis and beet root soup!). Midgard exceeded our expectations in all areas that matter The way Midgard is run, through friends, family that care and values that help leave our planet better for the next generation. The entire foundation Midgard is built on is beautiful, allowed us to have an extraordinarily personal trip and allowed me to feel good about my choice when I booked with them. They are dedication to conservation and built a varied comprehensive that touches on the nature, food, culture and music of Iceland. Thank you, Midgard, for the beautiful destinations and the amazing food and restaurant stops! I want to especially thank our guides, Palmi and Ragnar, for making the experience for our whole group memorable. Palmi was a very fun guide who weaved in humor to our destinations and shared local candy with the group, which my mother and I were most excited about. He was also gracious enough to answer all my many questions about Icelandic culture. Palmi was very knowledgeable, and shared the history and background of each of our destinations with us and allowed for me to gain a depth of understanding I was hoping for in my tours. They were both very different as guides, but we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated both. Our trip would have not allowed us to see as much, know and experience as much without this tour and these guides The very last night, Midgard hosted an Icelandic musician who played beautifully and was the perfect way to end our stay. Midgard is allowing the world to see what a beautiful country Iceland is, how kind and generous Icelandic people are and are giving people around the world an opportunity to know, understand and appreciate Icelandic culture. Break down cultural barriers. I've done my research. They are industry pioneers and I hope more companies around the world follow their lead. Book with Midgard for the Northern lights tour/any tour (our tour was a composite of several of their adventures). You won’t regret it! You also won’t find a better value for your experience with other companies.

We had one of our most spectacular vacations with Midgard Adventures 4 day Northern Lights Tour. They are a family owned business who welcomes everyone who enters with open arms. My hubby worked with them for a small birthday celebration that turned into an amazing night with the locals at their annual festival. We truly got to experience being in the local environment, best birthday gift ever. Midgard knows the weather and how to work around it and come up with alternative adventures. The tour guides are professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. We felt at ease and safe with them behind the wheel. Trust me the winds, ice, snow were no joke and not what we are used too. Midgard base camp was cozy and very inviting. The food was delicious and I loved the cocktails. The rooftop hot tub and sauna were lovely minus the gusty winds. We met two other couples on our tour and we quickly became friends. Midgard is a place where you want to keep visiting and exploring, we will definitely be back. A huge thank you to everyone at Midgard who helped make our adventure and my birthday very special.

My 15 year old son and I just returned from our tour with Midgard Adventure. We went on the 4 day Northern Lights tour, staying at Midgard Basecamp. I cannot adequately express how amazing the Midgard crew is in every way! First, we loved all of the sights! They took us to some of the more popular attractions along the Golden Circle, but also to less traveled areas like Thórsmörk, and for dessert and hot chocolate with a wonderful local family. Knowing my love of fiber arts, they even took us to meet local knitters and natural dyers! We got to know our tour guides well and loved their stories and history facts. We also got to know the people working at Midgard Basecamp who were all so kind and welcoming. We felt completely taken care of and made many amazing memories!! I recommend this group 100% and hope I get to travel with them again!

Midgard created such a great winter experience for us in Iceland. They sent us a packing list after booking that prepared us for the cold temperatures we would experience. Our wonderful guide Carlos picked us up in Reykjavík,and took us around the Golden Circle, teaching us about Iceland and tailoring the stops to us. Base Camp was fun and comfortable and had everything we needed. The next day we did the Super Jeeps on Thorsmork with Ragnar, who was another fantastic guide, teaching us about Iceland. It was so beautiful and we really enjoyed our day. That night Carlos joined us again for our Northern lights hunt, and we spotted some magic almost right away. He taught us about the lights, and brought us out to another amazing location to view them, and even helped us get some great pictures. Our final day was with Thorsir, who guided us on the glacier. It was such an amazing experience. Then we had lunch in Vik and saw more of the South Coast before heading back to Reykjavík. Midgard Tours put everything together to make this such a great experience. My teenage kids, who often complain about our travels, actually thanked me for booking this trip. We look forward to a future Iceland vacation and will be booking with Midgard again.
