Exceeded my expectations - we had a terrific group of 13 people from all over the world, an amazing tour guide who took pride in giving us a safe and informative experience, and we packed in a lot of sights, laughs, rain, wind, sunshine, and the Northern Lights!

Wow - this tour exceeded my expectations of traveling with a group! Andi our tour guide took great care of us from start to finish, provided stories, history, and information you would never receive renting a car and driving around on your own. We were a lucky group of 13 from all over the world who traveled well together. The tour was just the right amount of sights, stops, tastes, and experiences, including the Northern Lights showing up for us. Thank you for ensuring we were in the hands of a true Icelandic native who cares deeply about the country and the visitors you host.

I had an amazing time with Gj travel. Our guide Andreas (Andy) was brilliant and I learnt so much from him. He never tired-of answering questions and the pride of being from Iceland was evident. Ernie our driver was a gem, funny pleasant and got us all safely back to the hotel driving through bad weather conditions. The tour was perfect and we did so much in the day. The memories will last a lifetime.

We did this tour in Iceland last week and it was amazing!! We booked this tour to see the sights and because we did not want to drive in icy/snowy conditions and it did not disappoint! Our tour guide Peter/Petur was absolutely amazing - great driver, very knowledgeable & gave us a good laugh and lots of hot tips! We saw so many beautiful sights in Iceland and would happily come back again!

  • An admin error caused upset

I booked this tour through a 3rd party "On the Go Tours". It says 5 days, but this includes the stay in Reykjavik either side of the actual days on the road. On the whole this was a good tour. The pre tour accommodation was not particularly pleasing at all. I suggest you try to either upgrade your room, or upgrade your hotel. Please see separate review re The Cabin. We saw some very interesting sights, and the appreciation of this tour was helped by exceptional weather, seeing the northern lights most nights and a great group on our coach. Our tour guide was called Tor and he spoke good english and was very informative. Our coach was immaculate and comfortable. We stayed in Stracha Hotel for 2 nights, which was a wonderful hotel, bit of a wait the first night for a dinner table, maybe an hour, but the food was good. There is a spa there, but we did not get to try it. The trips out were all very interesting, and on the whole a good timetable, we personally wished we could of stayed longer at the folk museum and less time in shop areas. The only problem we had with this tour was personal and probably a one off admin error. We had paid On the Go Tours to do the additional glacier hike excursion, on the day the people doing the hike got off the coach and went to reception with the guide. We gave over our names, but the Glacier reception said we were not booked. The Glacier reception got on the phone to head office and tried everything to allow us to do the hike, as we had a receipt to prove we had paid for it, but they wouldn't let us. We were on hold with "On the Go Tours" for 20 minutes trying to talk to someone, our tour guide just kept saying we needed to get back on the coach. I felt afterwards that he had done nothing to assist us, did not even attempt to ring up GJ Travel to try to sort. We had to leave without doing it. I left a message with "On the Go Tours" and they rang me back and said that they had paid over our money for the excursion and believed it was an admin error of GJ Travel. Eventually this was proved correct. The solution to this was that they offered us a day tour to do the Glacier the day after we returned back to Reykjavik after the tour ended. I felt we had to accept this, it meant losing a day of our holiday, re-seeing two waterfalls which we had see in the tour, re-doing all the travel back to the Glacier, and obviously spending 10 hours on something we only wanted the 2 hour Glacier tour. I did complain when we got back, and asked for compensation as we then did not get to do the things we had earmarked for on our free day, but they felt we were suitable compensated by being allowed to do the tour. Maybe you agree?

Had an awesome introduction to a beautiful country. Hotel accommodation was superb, tour bus was brilliant and our tour guide, Thor, was simply outstanding. Not only was he an excellent and highly-skilled driver, he was very knowledgeable, entertaining, funny, helpful, friendly and a great musician too. The trip was a birthday for me treat and definitely something to remember. Special moment when the full group and Thor sang Happy Birthday to me, courtesy of my daughter. The itinerary was very well-prepared, we didn't feel rushed and we visited so many beautiful places. Loved the whole trip from start to finish and I will be going back very shortly for another winter trip. Top marks to GJ Travel 👍👍

We booked this tour through tourradar . We were with GJ Travel for 3 of the 5 days and it was excellant. Our guide was August and our driver was Christian. Every day was packed with wonderful things to see and oppertunity to do more physical things. This is a truly beautiful country and we were lucky enough to have little rain every day. Our entire group got along well and were punctual about leaving on time from different locations.

Our family of 4 had a great experience. I highly recommend this tour. We have 2 children 20 and 19. We went right after a terrible snowstorm but we happy we we able to take the tour. Our guide, Hillmar, was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. He was also an excellent driver navigating the storm situations and roads very well. He took the time to get to know everyone on the tour and also went out of he way to show us the northern lights which we saw 3 times. The tour was well organized. The tour buses were a little cramped on leg space but that is about our only critique. We would definitely recommend this tour.

  • Iceland has been filled with beauty surprises and delivered in all aspects. Highlight was the northern lights.

I did the 2022-2023 Northern Lights and New Year's Eve tour. There were a few hiccups along the way due to weather that was out of GJ's and our tour guide's control. When roads were closed, August, our tour guide, found something else for us to do until roads were reopened and we could continue on with the best of our itinerary. We did not miss any of the important must see's. If Arhus Cabins is on your hotel itinerary, RUN, don't walk. I don't blame GJ travel for what happened, who knew owners and managers could be so irresponsible as to not be available when a large group is coming. There was no one on site to help us find cabins, no paths so we were trudging in snow in poorly lit areas. We came back from dinner and there was no heat or electricity. I gathered my things and went to the hotel where our tour guide was staying while others stayed in the cabins and suffered for an evening. (NY doesn't play that, I was not suffering 1 minute.) This was a nightmare that GJ travel made good, after they learned of what happened from the numerous calls they received from our tour guide and a few travel agents. They upgraded all of us to stay at the better hotel, Stracta Hotel, for NYE. We had a wonderful time. If GJ continues to use them, then it is on GJ travel and I would imagine, that dump will bring their future ratings down. Iceland is a beautiful country. I would go back again but this time in Fall so I still get Aurora but no snow and ice. I look forward to many more tours with GJ. They did right by us, our tour guide, August and our driver, Pietro were wonderful. August was a wealth of knowledge, he was able to make immediate changes to your itinerary to "save the day", and he was pretty funny, charming, and an absolute delight. The roads were pretty bad because of snow and ice and I never, not for one second, felt unsafe in Pietro's very capable hands. Helpful hint: If you plan to go to Iceland, take a tour. Leave the driving to the professionals.
