On this self-guided walking tour, you will enjoy highlights and humor in the university city of Salamanca—from a guide who has never left. Salamanca may be small, but Spain’s oldest university city has a long history. On this walking tour, Martoke will show you the tiny city’s highlights and share some of its quirky – and often humorous – stories.
I’ll share a few famous anecdotes about the square on this tour, including its bullfighting past. At Palacio de Monterrey (Monterrey’s Palace), I’ll explain how its symmetrical features make it a fine example of Renaissance architecture. When you reach Salamanca Cathedral, you’ll hear astonishing tales of what PhD candidates went through in the early 1300s. At the Convent of San Esteban, you’ll find out how the current Gregorian Calendar foundations were laid right here.
Salamanca may be a small city, but you can’t imagine the history it can tell! Join me, and we’ll discover it together.

We both loved being able to listen independantly while walking. The narrator was very informative. The ability to have a in-time map, and link our location to triggering the guides relevant info was great. Not having to fit in with a set timing or location, not having to stop and start a recordiing or ourselves was so good. The narrators voice was really engging and pleasant to listen to. I wanted to sit down over a drink and talk with them! Thanks for gret way to see one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in Spain.

Good guide and interesting. Much easier to find your way around than others I’ve used. Took a bit of time to work out how to stop and start but it’s possible.

An excellent tour, with interesting facts about the key points and an excellent directions function. We prefer self guided as we can move at our own pace and this one was brilliant.

Just what we wanted! Good information on main sights in Salamanca (but not too much!) and we could go round at our own pace. Highly recommended if that’s what you e.

Great guide. Covered everything we needed at our own pace. Could pause for drinks, food and rest at will. Better than a large guided tour. Lots of information and some rather surprising and funny facts!

The directions to the second location were impossible to find and we searched 30 minutes to find the next location. After 15 minutes listening at the starting point we abandoned the tour as it was not at all clear where to go next. This particular tour was a complete waste of time and money.

It was difficult to stay on track, the directions could have been more detailed. Her accent was understandable as opposed to other guides.

We really enjoyed that this tour downloaded to our phone so we didn't have to use data to take the tour. This method was also much better than QR codes and wifi in museums for preserving phone battery. It was great being able to to a self-paced tour in English. We were able to stop and take breaks along the way. The information provided was amusing and engaging. FYI: you do have to download a separate app (VoiceMap) and agree to that app's terms as well.

I liked the anecdotes about historical characters. This audio tour can start and stop at will. We were able to do part of it yesterday and continue today. The map with the visual of the stop is also very helpful. Wish more tours were like this.
