The building that now houses our ticket office is one of the oldest canal related buildings in the area, dating to 1774 and is grade II listed. It was originally a warehouse for goods being transported on the canal, hence the large cranes outside- one facing the canal, the other facing our cobbled car park, formerly stables for horses towing the craft. Somewhere near the site of the wharf, although the exact location is now lost, was Winterwell Hall, a medieval manor whose remains were lost during the building of the canal basin.
The boat passes a winding hole in the part of Skipton known as Snaygill. Directly opposite the winding hole can be found the Craven Nursing Home. This is built on the site of Snaygill House, and was initially built as a public house, the Copper Beeches. Snaygill was formerly a separate town to Skipton. It was listed in the Domesday Book as being owned by William the Conqueror, formerly by the Earl Edwin. The land was shown to be six carucates in size and production- one Carucate is the land 8 oxen can plough in a single season, roughly 120 acres.

The afternoon tea looked nothing like the pictures shown. The sandwich’s were very basic with sparse fillings. The scones were very nice , although tiny . The boat was cold had to sit with coat on. The chap serving was good

Hubby and I had a lovely relaxing two hour afternoon tea cruise. I knew what to expect foodwise before we went as I had looked at previous reviews on trip advisor and seen photos. The food was simple but nicely presented and tasty. The tables are set up so there are perspex screens between so although all the tables were occupied you couldnt hear other conversations. The cruise itself was very serene with lots to look at along the journey. Staff were fabulous. Our cups of tea were filled several times and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a bar where you could purchase additional drinks at very reasonable prices.

Very friendly and thoughtful service. The crew is attentive and makes the trip a real pleasure. Beautiful views of the dales and up close look at the Yorkshire canal system make for an interesting and relaxing experience. Dairy free and gluten free options are provided on request

What a wonderful trip, made even more enjoyable by the attitudes of the friendly staff, especially the two young gentlemen who served our food, and tea/coffee. I was bought this trip as a birthday gift. It was originally planned as a different trip from another supplier, which fell through, and this was second choice. I have to say though, it certainly wasn't second best, it was wonderful. I hadn't fancied afternoon tea, but it was first class, and I enjoyed very bit of it. The tea and coffee were bottomless, and as good as you'd get in a high class coffee shop. All in all, I can't recommend it enough.

Absolutely wonderful. My elderly father did not want to go and doesn’t like afternoon tea but even he said how nice it was and he really enjoyed the day. Unlimited tea and coffee (even decaf) throughout the trip in fact Ben and Harry were at the table every few minutes. Both my elderly mother who can hardly walk and my 85 yr old dad who uses crutches managed the 5 steps in and out of the boat with Ben & Harry’s help. We traveled 1hr 20 mins to get there and I’d definitely go again. There was even an elderly blind man on our trip and he was handled very carefully and helped to his seat. The food was delicious too.
