I booked a tour through BOB Holidays for a day trip from York to the Moors and town of Whitby. This is a family owned business and the driver and his wife could not have been more responsive and delightful. I mistakenly booked the trip from Harrogate (not realizing that was a town 45 min away) instead of York city center where we were staying. I realized this the night before we were to be picked up. I used the message feature on the BOB website and got an instant response from Lucy (owner) even though it was well after business hours. She had already determined that we were not in Harrogate and not to worry. We booked a small group tour as there were 8 of us and itturned out to be just our group. We were picked up by a small luxury minibus that was clean, comfortable, plenty of space. Our driver Alan wore a headset so we could all hear his wealth of information and stories. We learned so much about North Yorkshire and he was willing to tailor our day trip according to what we wanted to see. To rent a car for the day, large enough for 8 people, would have cost us more than it cost for 300-400 dollars more than booking a small group tour. We would have had a very difficult time driving in the Moors, not to mention we would have definitely been lost....unexpected road closures etc. I highly encourage skipping a car rental and booking a small group day trip. I love to support the local business owners as well. I highly recommend BOB Holidays -- which is Best Of Britain.
