We visited ANURA to do the day tour with the biologist and were delighted. The hike is quiet and perfect to learn about the biodiversity of La Fortuna. The guide explained everything clearly and passionately, from the native plants to the insects and birds we saw along the way. We especially enjoyed understanding the restoration process they are doing on the property. A different activity in Costa Rica, ideal for those who enjoy nature calmly.

The tour combines environmental interpretation, wildlife viewing moments and explanations of how local actions help ecosystem recovery. The night tour of Anura park was our first excursion in Costa Rica after arriving that morning. My kids wanted to see a poisonous snake, but luckily we didn't. Alberto pointed out a sloth, 3 caimans, multiple species of frogs, a basilisk lizard, a turtle, sleeping butterflies and birds, walking sticks, and a wide variety of other insects. We each wore a citronella bracelet and some bug spray, but only my daughter was bitten twice by mosquitos. They provide the flashlights, which were better than the ones our kids brought. We liked the small group tour dynamic--4 of us went one way on the trail, and another group of 5 went the other direction. Alberto spent extra time beyond the allotted 2 hours, so we never felt rushed to finish. Anura is definitely NOT a zoo, and admission supports their conservation efforts to restore previously cleared jungle.
