Hakata and Fukuoka: A Bicycle Tour of Two Towns

Fukuoka consists of two towns with different histories.

Hakata, on the other hand, flourished as Japan's oldest international port and was a center of trade and diplomacy that was the departure point for Japanese envoys to Sui and Tang China in ancient times.

On the other side of Fukuoka is the castle and its castle town built by Kuroda Nagamasa, a warlord of the Sengoku period, with his father Josui, across the Naka River.

On this tour, you and your Guide will visit two different cultural areas, a merchant town and a castle town, while experiencing the genesis and history of the city of Fukuoka.

Also, one of the attractions of biking is that you can ride along paths and rivers that are not accessible by car, or you can stop by spots known only to locals. This tour offers a deeper and more realistic experience of Fukuoka, allowing you to explore a wider area more efficiently than walking, and experiencing the city’s air and seasonal scents through your five senses.

A really welcoming tour, lots of informative stops about the history and food of Fukuoka. Cycling really means you can get across a wide portion of the city and understand the history behind the core areas. Both of the guides were very friendly and really made this a highlight of my trip.

We had an absolutely wonderful bike tour with the most charming guide who was super considerate and very respectful of the relaxed pace that we wanted keep while riding. As he grew up in Fukuoka, he was very knowledgeable about the city and showed us many lovely corners of this amazing place. He also treated us to our very first Matcha Latte and Matcha Ice Cream which were extremely delicious! Arigato Haruka!!!

We had a hard time finding the place but our guide Haruka was patient and waited for us. He made sure the pace he set was comfortable for us since we are seniors and had breaks in between. Haruka was knowledgeable about the area and shared his love of Fukuoka. I would gladly recommend this tour!

I had a great time cycling through Osaka. The weather was perfect and we saw all of the major attractions. Our guide was an expert on Osaka and its history.

  • Excellent guide, especially enjoyed cycling through Fukuoka castle ruins and Ohori park.

Cycling through Ohori park and the Fukuoka castle ruins were the highlights. Our guide Haruka was great, and we felt safe at all times. We always find that a cyclng tour is the best way to start to get to know a new city when we visit, and this was certainly the case with our Fukuoka cycling experience . Thank you!

Our guide Haru was great! He kept our group together and provided us with information at each stop. The break at the cafe in Ohori Park for a sweet treat was appreciated. This was a perfect day and a perfect way to see the city close up. We would recommend this tour to our family and friends.

  • Good cycling but not much historical information

The student guide was friendly. He was very caring to ensure my safety while cycling on the road. He also took care of my need and introduced me Japanese sweets and desserts. The bike was also in good condition . However, I felt that the historical tour didn’t meet my expectation of a historical tour of Kyushu. About 10-15% of the information was given. I am not sure if a professional guide is needed. For the trips I booked in Australia and Europe with Trip Advisor, this was totally different in terms of historical discovery. The company should invest in training their guides about the country’s history. Overall, cycling was fun on the road but lack of historical elements.

Haruka, our guide, is friendly and English is ok. The tour is a nice way to get a taste of the different part of Fukuoka city. The 17km of bike ride is good, with rest spots at various attraction sites.
