Prambanan Temples
The second destination on our tour introduces you to another facet of ancient Javanese spirituality - Prambanan Temple, a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia. Witness the grandeur of Hindu architecture, characterized by tall, pointed structures, intricately engraved with scenes from Hindu mythology. The complex, built in the 9th century, is dedicated to the Trimurti - Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva - each housed in a separate towering shrine. The itinerary was well planned, comfortable, and never felt rushed, allowing us to truly appreciate both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Our tour guide Irhas was outstanding. He is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about Indonesian history and culture. His explanations brought Borobudur and Prambanan to life, and he patiently answered all our questions while sharing many interesting stories and insights that we would never have learned on our own. The lunch at local restaurant he recommended was truly amazing. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Borobudur and Prambanan. 5.00We had a fantastic time on this tour and thoroughly recommend anyone who visits Yogyakarta. Praja was a terrific guide - very punctual, arranged entrance to the temples for us and took us to a delicious lunch venue. Most importantly he was great company, teaching us many interesting facts about the temples and life in Yogyakarta. We did not opt for the sunrise tour & were very grateful as there was heavy rain in the morning - Borobudur was just as spectacular later in the day.

Irhas picked us up from our hotel in an air conditioned car and was so knowledgable, professional and friendly. He also handled everything at the temples so we could just enjoy it. 5.00Short version - it was fantastic. Long version - It SUCKS that I cannot give Ecco and this tour experience SIX STARS ☆☆☆☆☆☆. This full day journey begins with pickup from our hotel. Hopping into the very comfortable company car with plenty of AC as Ecco drives us to our first destination. Along the way Ecco answers all my questions about the neighbourhoods and countryside that we pass through. Upon arrival at the Borobudur Temple, our entrance and meetup with our local guide is seamless. The history of Borobudur temple is incredible. Be prepared for a long climb while wearing the required free sandals that you get to keep. It is a huge temple. The guide's colourful commentary is unique and adds to the experience. Upon reaching the upper layers of the temple where the views are spectacular a brief photo-op is required. After traversing the 900+ year old temple and making your way back to the parking lot area make sure you visit the Prana restaurant for some tasty gelato and other treats. Part 1 of our trip is complete feeling like we touched Nirvana. Part 2 of our journey begins meeting with Ecco and jumping into the AC car. It was 33°C outside. The ride from one site to the other is 90 minutes. Complimentary bottled water is provided. The sites along the way are fascinating to me evey though my partner decided to nap. Before arriving at the Prambanan temples, our next stop, Ecco delivered us to a quaint restaurant for a traditional lunch in a peaceful and tranquil setting where our bellies become full and where we could reflect on our first experience. Our 2nd site which may be less in stature was made up by our local guide's knowledge and cultural storytelling of the history of temples at this location. The ability to enter the sites and physically touch and interact with the temples help you connect with its rich history. Our tour is completed by Ecco driving us back to our hotel in comfort and safety. His driving skills are excellent in a sea of traffic chaos. This tour is a great experience whether you are a solo travler or you have a bunch of kids. Not for families with babies in strollers or the very old and infirmed because a lot of climbing is involved. Comfortable shoes, a hat and plenty of sunscreen are a must. Thanks Ecco!
