Our most popular tour! Enjoy a full-day, self-guided biking tour (riding FUN e-bikes) to some of the regions finest wineries to enjoy wine tastings galore. We take you (and your bike) at 10am out to the stunning Cape Kidnappers where your easy, flat cycle route starts. This trail cycles past 5 award-winning wineries along a 20km stretch of easy, scenic cycle pathways.
Meet our van at the last winery at Havelock North at Black Barn Vineyard for a 4pm transfer back to your pick up point. A truly memorable experience enjoying the best wineries of Hawke's Bay on a bike!
If you have booked this tour on a Saturday or public holiday, we totally recommend making bookings at the wineries you want to stop at.

At the time of booking please advise your height so we can allocate the correct sized bikes for you.
NOTE: tour starts with a 10am shuttle from our base in Napier to the first winery and a 4pm shuttle from the last winery back to Napier.
Opening days and hours at wineries vary, we will advise you where possible
Please note that wineries charge for tastings (this is not included). The charge is around NZ$15-50 per person and is usually rebated against any purchases
On Saturdays and public holidays, BOOKINGS are recommended at the wineries you want to visit. Te Mata and Askerne welcome walk-ins however!

What To Expect
Takaro Trails Cycle Tours - Day Tours
Meet here to catch our shuttle at 10am. Your tour includes bike, pannier & helmet hire, water bottle, route instructions & trail map, wine pick up service and return transport to Napier. (Min 2 people per booking).
Cape Kidnappers
This is your starting point - our van transfers you here. You will be set up on your bike (choose an e-bike for extra cruisey riding) and be given a briefing on the route before you set off, cycling at your own pace to enjoy the scenery and visits to the various wineries along the way. Visit Hygge Cafe here OPEN 7 days in summer for a coffee or snack for the cycle ride.

5.00Nice way to discover the different winemakers at your own pace. Your bike with a mountain bike, electric, along some beautiful wine regions. Tastings on your own and you can even eat with it. Fun day around Cape Kidnappers, driver Zeke is helpful and makes sure you go well on the road.

5.00Highly recommend: Gorgeous route, clearly marked signs, protected path (away from cars) the entire route, and good communication from the company. We booked the E-bikes and it made this a breeze for multiple fitness levels! If you’re not fit, it’s okay, you can still do & *enjoy* it with their pedal assist e-bikes. NOTE: 1) the wineries listed on the viator itinerary are outdated. (See below) 2) you need to book some of them in advance. Not all are open 7 days a week. They will text you the night before w which are open, but you can find this on google to book in advance to get preferred times. 3) go to Craggy Range, especially if on e-bike. The view/ scenery is STUNNING and the elevation change to/from is minimal and very doable on e-bike. 5.00It was such a fun day with great staff. Relatively easy on the e-bikes. Only thing I didn’t realise is that you don’t have time to go to every winery. Highly recommend Askerne for lunch.

5.00Very good fun, e-bikes make it very easy to cover the distance. We went to five out of the six vineyards and the tastings were all different and very good. Some excellent wines. Emails about needing to book some of the tastings, and food, could have come a little earlier, as we were travelling and could not reply or book in advance. Our guides were very clear with their instructions on the journey out to the start, so our getting slightly lost was down to our lapses in concentration. Would definitely do it again.

4.00The good news first: e-bikes were in great condition and the trails are beautiful. Really nice. That’s important since this is more a bike ride than a wine tour. And it was a real experience. The bad news: some wineries are not open seven days; the route is confusing and the map handed out is more representational than literal (we got lost) and the weather is definitely relevant. It rained lightly for most of our ride. Be sure to note that wine is not included in the price so count on spending saying $50NZ+ more than the cost of the trip.
