What To Expect
I have four photography tours available: Sunrise, Sunset, Factory Butte, and Astro. You can book one or them all. During each tour, you will visit multiple locations at the right time of the day. These locations have been hand-picked based on the quality of compositions, ease of access, quietness and beauty. Take a pick between the two thousand-foot cliffs of the Waterpocket Fold Tour, endless vistas of Factory Butte, the Freemont River meandering through the canyons of Capitol Reef at sunset, or watch the Milky-Way Galaxy over the sandstone cliffs and spires. Here at Capitol Reef Photography Tours, our main goal for each tour and workshop is to build upon your current skill set so that, by the end of each tour, you are more confident and capable than before.

In Depth Photo Instruction: Learn about your camera, compositions, etc. Duration: 3 hours Pickup included
Sunrise Photography Tour
In Depth Photo Instruction: Through the morning, I will be lending thoughtful information on composition techniques, camera settings, and more. Duration: 3 hours: This tour will last from 2.5 to 3.5 hours. You will photograph 2-4 locations including a short walk into a beautiful canyon. Toyota Tacoma Pickup included
Astro Photography Tour
In Depth Photo Instruction: Learn how to take great photographs of the night sky, the Milky Way, and more. Duration: 3 hours: From pick-up to drop-off this tour will last three hours. Drive Into Capitol Reef: We will be spending our entire tour in Capitol Reef National Park. You will photograph 2-4 locations, depending on the time. Pickup included

5.00We had a great time on our Capitol Reef Photography Tour! Hunter picked us up and took us to several spots with great scenes and photo opportunities. We worked multiple compositions at each spot. Hunter's instruction and tips were super helpful and on point. Definitely worth it whether you're an experienced photog or a relative beginner!

5.00Hunter page Hunter is a highly experienced, very professional, and exceptional teacher. He has been accessible, friendly, and flexible at all times during my trips. I saw the Bentonite Hills on my first evening, and then we did a half-day trip to Cathedral Valley on my second day, exploring the northern reaches of the valley, which were especially scenic and well worth the visit. Hunter impressed me with the breadth of his knowledge—both of the local photographic sites and in interpreting the landscape for strong compositions—along with his creative skill set and wide-ranging expertise. He teaches with clarity and effectiveness. These were not simply photography tours, but more like mini-workshops, offering extensive opportunities to learn, for which I was very grateful. I previously completed an astrophotography evening with Hunter a year ago, which was also excellent and may interest any photographer looking to expand their knowledge in that field. I highly recommend Hunter to anyone engaged in photography, whether just starting out or working professionally. ⸻

5.00Awesome day with Hunter! I did a full day tour in Cathedral Valley and Bentonite Hills. I would consider myself a beginner and he was so helpful with tips and hints. He showed me things on my camera that will be useful as I go explore. His teaching style is great, and he knows the area very well. He is very receptive to any questions you have. Great conversation as we would drive to our next stop. I will definitely use Hunter again on different adventures! If you want to experience Utah's beautiful splendour, do not hesitate to Hunter.

5.00Had a great photo tour with Hunter to Moonscape Overlook for sunrise. It was easy booking with Hunter, he picked me up from my hotel and we headed off to the overlook for some photo action. The landscape beyond the overlook is completely unworldly, alien plane-like and makes for very interesting shots. Hunter is able to provide as much or a little assistance as needed - no surprise that my best shot came from a setup location he recommended!

5.00I joined an astro/night sky photography tour this past April and had a fantastic experience. Hunter is an extremely experienced photographer and a patient, approachable teacher who’s easy to learn from. I picked up a lot about astrophotography, and the locations he chose within the park were excellent. He also made sure I had plenty of personal input throughout the tour, which I really appreciated. I would absolutely return for another tour and am already planning my next trip!
Getting to the right places during the best light in Cathedral Valley

5.00In April I did the 1/2-day, late afternoon, Cathedral Valley Tour with Hunter. It can be a treacherous drive requiring a high-clearance, 4-wheel-drive vehicle, so I was happy to leave the arrangements to him. My objectives were photography-driven --- to get to the best viewpoints in the best light, and that's what he provided. During the trip we also had interesting discussions about landscape photography. For those who want coaching and instruction, Hunter can certainly do that, but that wasn't the focus of my trip. He also gave me a good tip about another less well-known point in Capitol Reef that was an outstanding photo site. I would heartily recommend this tour. I would be less inclined to do the full day/full loop tour -- it would involve a tedious amount of driving, and much of it would take place when the light was not optimal.
