Dar Es Salaam Region
Dar es Salaam stands as business hub of Tanzania. Its the biggest city in the east and central Africa. Your pickup will start early in the morning 08:00 and heading to southern on the Nyerere road. On the way you'll pass along the industrial areas of Vingunguti all the way to Airport; signifying that you are leaving the city heading to your hiking in Pugu Forest natural reserve.
Pugu Hills Forest Reserve
Formerly known as the Mogo Forest, Pugu Hills is widely recognized as one of the oldest remaining coastal forests on the planet. Walking through this ancient evergreen canopy feels like stepping back in time. It’s an absolute haven for birdwatchers, hiding over 80 distinct bird species within its branches. The reserve features an excellent network of hiking trails, each offering a different perspective of the landscape. One of our favorite routes leads up to a stunning panoramic viewpoint. From the top, the contrast is incredible: you can look back at the distant skyline of Dar es Salaam while surrounded by miles of lush forest and a quiet, hidden lake below. If you're up for a bit of an adventure, we'll also take a trek out to the local cave system—famous for its massive resident bat colony and a fascinating look at the area's unique geology. It is the ultimate antidote to the city's fast pace, offering incredible photography spots and a deep breath of fresh air.

My family woke up early to explore the heart of Dar es Salaam. The morning began with laughter at Coco Beach, where the sea breeze set the tone for the day. Soon after, we visited the National Museum, letting the children marvel at ancient stories and traditions. At Mwenge Market, we watched artisans carve wood with incredible skill, and couldn’t resist buying a few keepsakes. Lunch brought us together over Swahili seafood dishes that tasted like the ocean itself. A quick ferry ride carried us to Bongoyo Island, where swimming and sandcastles made the afternoon fly by. The day ended at Slipway, watching the sun melt into the ocean as a perfect family moment.

I only had a full day in Dar es Salaam, but the city made sure every minute was unforgettable. When the moment I stepped out into the warmly welcome Envoyage Tanzania, salty air drifting in from the Indian Ocean, I felt an energy that was both relaxed and vibrant. The streets buzzed with a mix of honking bajajis, friendly street vendors, and the aroma of freshly grilled mishkaki blending with the scent of sea breeze. Lunch was a plate of freshly grilled fish with pilau rice, eaten slowly as the ocean breeze danced across my table. By evening, the city glowed-streetlights reflecting on the water, laughter spilling from beachside cafes, and the scent of spiced tea in the air. One day wasn’t enough, but it was enough to know I’d come back.

Our one day in Dar es Salaam was full of color and culture. We started with a visit to the bustling Kivukoni Fish Market, followed by a quick tour of the National Museum. After enjoying fresh seafood by the sea, we relaxed at Coco Beach and ended the day shopping for handmade crafts at Mwenge Carvers Market. A short trip, but full of great memories. The day always remember of our life. We highly recommend Envoyage Tanzania for their service and hospitable.
