Morogoro contain some of the oldest original forest in Africa, and while it is much depleted these days, the range is green and scenic, and offers enjoyable hiking.
From Morogoro the most popular route is to Morningside, an old German mountain hut to the south of town at about 1000m (about two to three hours on foot). The path starts at the Regional Administration buildings about 3km south of the town centre at the end of Boma Rd

Best way to get close to local people in the mountains, a day in Morogoro to fill while waiting for a transfer in or out of town? A hike in the Ulurgu Mountains to Choma Waterfall or all the way to Lupanga Peak (2150m above sea level) is a great way to spend the day! This is more of a walk through villages on a steep dirt trail, than it is a true “hike” through treacherous terrain.

Tony was an excellent Guide. We enjoyed doing this hike with Safaris Partners. We've learned a lot about the environment and plants and trees. The waterfall was very nice. We had a bath there and no people around. All around a lovely day

We hiked to the Choma waterfall and Morningside with guide Antony, and it was excellent! He is very knowledgeable and an experienced tourguide, who could tell us all about the mountain. Great conversation and guiding. The views are wonderful, only wish we had time to go to the peak and camp overnight at Morningside. The snacks were good (more like a meal!), and we bought berries and jackfruit on our way up the mountain. The pickup and drop off went very smoothly with Edward. I would highly recommend Antony and Safari Adventures for any hike around Morogoro. Asante sana!

A really great trip! I've seen many waterfalls and didn't expect too much. The ascent is then more challenging than expected and you pass many small villages and beautiful bends in the road. The view of Morogoro is breathtaking. Our guide Elton has us ready for a fantastic afternoon. Highly recommended!

We did the walk to the Choma Waterfalls en Morning Side with our guide Toni. Very friendly, knows a lot about the mountains and its animals and crops. Helps you learn more Swahili and interact with the local people! Safe trip and good pace for walking. Brought water and some local Tanzanians snacks. Very lovely!
