Join us as we track down and watch the natural behaviours of Tsavo wildlife, from giraffes carefully navigating sharp thorns to pick fresh leaves and twigs of the Acacia trees, to Predators stalk impalas, gazelles, elands, zebras, fringe-eared oryx, dik-diks and other prey animals from the cover of sparse bush and shadows.

This immense action unfolds against a vigilant backdrop of grazing and foraging elephants, buffalos, rhinos and other large herbivores. Walking under tree canopies filled with scampering monkeys, baboons, galago and other tree dwellers, ready to sound an alarm at the slightest sign of danger.

With so many wildlife species within the diverse landscape, you will be delighted and thrilled every moment of your Experience with Expedition Happy Hour

  • Nice trip shame about the transport

Kenya has poor infrastructure so be prepared for a rough journey to the park and driving standards that will shock most europeans. This wasnt helped by the awful condition of the minivan that transported us and took us around the park. To start with it was grubby in the extreme, it smelled strongly of diesel/petrol fumes, the seat belt in the 1st seat I sat in wouldnt work, I used another seat and that seat belt wouldnt retract so there was 3/4 inches of slack, which seemed rather pointles. When I later tried to open the side sliding door it was stuck and on every occasion had to be opened from the outside, that was very concerning should there be a bad accident or worse, a fire. On the return journey with temperatures in the early 30's I was informed there was no air conditioning so it was an uncomfortable 3 hour journey. Inside the park as expected we were travelling on dirt roads, not meant for a mini van, I expected a rough ride but a 4x4 would have been far more appropriate. We actually got stuck at one point for about 45 mins to an hour and had to be pulled out. I felt for the driver/guide who did his best to get us free but had to resort to a tow out from another vehicle. The guide was great and did his utmost to find game for us, to the extent that we finished later than anticipated as he searched for elephants. Visitors should be prepared for disappointment as far as wildlife is concerned, Tsavo is apparently the largest park in Africa and obviously the search for animals is constrained by their proximity to the roads through it. I have visited Kruger and Etosha in the past and seen much more game than on this trip. The vehicle we had was in the poorest condition I observed of all the others I came across, I would strongly urge tour companies to take safety more seriously, whilst travelling in poorer countries you might expect substandard roads and erratic driving, I would expect a vehicle fit for purpose.

Francis was an amazing driver and guide navigated a heavy day of traffic flawlessly. Our day in the park was equally amazing as we saw almost every animal we could imagine. To convoys one of elephants and the other of a family of ostrich cross right in our path.

  • One day trip not suitable from coastal area

The one day trip to Tsavo is not suitable for tourist staying in Diani. The park is 3 hours each way which allows you to stay only few hours in the park. Driver and guide Francis, who did a great job, stops at tourist trap on way to and from the park. Due to arrival and exit times you miss peak animal viewing time.

Driven around by the eagle-eyed kelli, I saw neary everything and then some more! He was personable, knowledgeable and helpful! Doing this all in one day is tiring, so you need a person like Kelli as your guide.
