If you love dogs of all shapes and sizes, this Experience is for you. Visit the Happy Tails Sanctuary, in the south of the island, home to 130 rescue dogs! Most of these lovable furry friends have come from the streets & some previously had an "owner." Unwanted, unloved or abused, they all have a sad story to tell about their past
All the dogs at the sanctuary are up for adoption and sponsorship and the animal loving team works 24/7 on making sure their suffering days are over. They have a big dog park to play in and also a lovely house to rest in with their favourite canine friends. You can play, walk and run with the dogs and get smothered in kisses!
Your visit contributes towards the wellbeing of the sanctuary dogs and also towards hosting sterilisation campaigns locally in order to reduce the overpopulation of straying dogs on the island.

A lovely experience, lots of cuddles with the puppies and older dogs. Great to see the work the rescue is doing on the island.

What a hidden gem! This was definitely one of the best trips while visiting Mauritius. We had the pleasure of Samantha and she was just amazing and down to earth. She knows all the dogs by name and it was also great hearing about the beautiful work they do. And obviously all the loving dogs. Tip: Remember sports/loose clothing, because you will be hairy and a little bit dirty.

Our family of 6 had a guided tour with the lovely Samantha. Samantha is so friendly and very dedicated to the 130+ beautiful dogs at the sanctuary. She expertly lead us through the different enclosures and introduced us to every member of each pack. Samantha explained how and why they are separated for maximum doggie safety and progress. We were able to spend time cuddling and playing with each and every dog. Somehow the staff all know each dog's name and personality, and can identify them just by the sound of their bark! These dogs are rehabilitated with love and care, and the guided tours help socialise them AND help with much-needed funding for this incredible work! Totally worth the visit ❤️🐾

We visited the sanctuary in August and you immediately feel the love and passion of all the employees giving their heart and soul for all their dogs, even though the overall circumstances remain challenging, not enough resources, financial and volunteers. All the time you will spend at the sanctuary is well worth it, all the hugs and wagging tails will show it to you and of course every donation will help the sanctuary. The experience is humbling and gratifying if you are an animal lover, so do not hesitate and visit Happy Tails during your next stay in Mauritius.

It was wonderful and the dogs could not be petted enough. Despite the rain it was a lot of fun.

Absolute must visit for dog lovers! We loved every minute of this experience. The dogs are well cared for and clearly love meeting new people - and what a view of the bay to top it all off! Just be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty!

We absolutely loved this great place, these great people and the incredibly friendly and adorable dogs. The dogs are doing very well there, they are safe, well looked after and loved. The problem with ostrich dogs in Mauritius is glorifying. If you want to make a good and important contribution to active animal welfare in Mauritius, you should definitely book, pet and enjoy this tour :) The access is easy and from the road the entrance to the shelter is easy to see. The whole facility, spouts, feed kitchen etc. were very well maintained and clean. The dogs made a very relaxed impression and were very happy about our visit!

Absolutely amazing work carried out by loving people. They put in a lot of effort to make the dogs happy and healthy. We saw every dog and they were very clean and well fed meaning it’s a great place for dogs to be, they do require more funding to get better so donating will help. Would highly recommend visiting this dog sanctuary if you are staying in Mauritius. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We visited in mid April during a two week holiday where a cloudy day prompted us to explore cozy activities outside water/beach/boat activities. Visiting this shelter was an amazing experience. The caretakers honestly care for and put their life into taking care of these dogs to the fullest. You will be let with so many happy friendly faces in need of a home. Traumatized dogs are separated from others and will not be available to visit. This shows that they know what they are doing, and the dogs also respect the caretakers highly. They know all the dogs names by heart and their stories and personalities. Bring clothes that can get dirty, as some dogs will for sure want to put their paws in your lap. The experience is overall amazing if you love and care for dogs.
