Let me begin by saying Rose was a GREAT guide and except for the nearly late return to port, this excursion would have been flawless! Communication was great and we were given clear instructions where to meet Rose, which was right outside the pier. Rose was extremely knowledgeable about Dunedin and got us to many highlights throughout the South Island. She was extremely personable and a great guide. We started with a scenic tour of the area nearest the pier and some super beautiful sites and 'must see' areas. After some of those places, we went to the old train station which was a beautiful building inside and out and there was a large outdoor market with great local produce, crafts and foods - great stop. When Rose met us after our time to browse the market, she had gotten us a container of fresh cherries and blueberries, which were more flavorful than any we'd had in many years! We also went to Otago University and saw their very old and awesome original buildings and the new and very modern buildings. Next we went to Larnach Castle and Garden which was of course one of two 'highlights' on the excursion. Both the castle and the garden were awesome and we were glad we booked them as they were must see sites. Rose made sure we got to the castle before the bus loads of people (our ship and another were in port) arrived which was greatly appreciated! Next we headed to the Royal Albatross Center. We were hoping to see an Albatross, but knew that since that is up to nature, it may or may not happen. Fortunately, we were able to see 5 Albatross sitting on their eggs and then we had the extremely great fortune of seeing several Albatross in flight AND Actually was able to get a picture of them in flight! When we got back to the car, Rose had gotten us a bag of Whittaker's chocolate which was an awesome touch. Now-the only 'negative' part. Rose thought we had to be back to the ship by 4:00 and told us to leave the Albatross tour a few minutes early, which we did. I could tell she was really hurrying to get us back and | let her know that our latest return time was actually 4:30 pm and I could tell she was relieved. We had no idea how long it would take to get to the pier - and she stopped at a few places for us to take pictures, but in hindsight, that probably shouldn't have happened. I finally pulled up GoogleMaps and saw we were going to get to the pier at 4:22pm which was cutting it really close. Then we hit a construction delay. We did arrive at the pier at 4:24pm and they unlocked the non-cruise excursion return gate for us so we were able to get on just before the gangplank was removed. So, except for the stress on the return to the pier, I would absolutely recommend this excursion and Rose!!

Our guide Rosie was flexible to meet our 9-4 schedule. She was a very careful driver on the narrow winding scenic drives through the beautiful countryside. We visited the lovely architecture of the train station, university and saw wonderful city buildings. The optional tour of the castle and botanical gardens was well worth the extra cost of the ticket. The stops to view the countryside and beaches were breathtaking. We went to the albatross site, but our schedule and bookings by others did not allow that. I would highly recommend this tour.

Picking up was a breeze. Our tour guide, Rose, was absolutely fantastic. So friendly and a great driver. She really knew her stuff when it came to the history and present of Dunedin. Rose was super flexible and always happy to snap group photos at each lookout. She never rushed us and made sure we were having a wonderful time on our excursion. It was such a great experience.
