What To Expect
This private tour takes you to the lovely island of Vestmannaeyjar where you can experience beautiful nature, great food and tons of amusing activities. With a population of approx. 4.300 people, this friendly fisherman village is full of both history and scenic wonders!
Eldfell
On January 23rd 1973 a strange sound of thunder fills the air on Vestmannaeyjar. The earth trembles and the sky lights up with a red and orange glow. A 1500 meter long volcanic fissure erupted at the edge of the town only 200 meters from the nearest houses. About half of the town was lost to the flowing lava. The eruption caused the 200 meter high volcano Eldfell to form. The island was evacuated during the event and once the eruption drew to a close the inhabitants of the island eventually returned and had to dig out their homes from under hills of ash.

5.00From start to finish Villi our guide provided every detail we needed to guarantee an informative, safe and fun trip. Transportation is a lovely SUV and very comfortable. Villi is enjoyable and comfortable to talk and be with. His incredible knowledge of the land, the UNESCO areas, the volcanoes, the history and all things green and resourceful of/in Iceland was the very very best. I cannot express strong enough how lucky we were to find this event and guide. It completely made us see it all!! Forever grateful and LUV ICELAND!

5.00We went by a nice comfortable ship to the port. Amazing when approaching the small islands to see the homes of so many birds!And later as the result of eruption in 1973 the new port was formed. A part of the city was destroyed.e.g. you can see the remaining parts of the former swimming pool.We went up to the top of "new" volcano Etldfel and got a marvellous view all around. Then visited the local museum and were deeply touched by the human stories. After the perfect late lunch we enjoyed to walk around and liked the peaceful atmosphere of being nowhere 😊. A ship in the late afternoon took us back.
