What To Expect
This exclusive small group event is a perfect way to start your evening in Mainz: Join Bottlestops’ German wine expert Jérôme for a 2 hours wine tasting paired to local snacks. We start event with a sparkling wine followed a flight of 5 excellent local wines. We will be located in one of the most spectacular cellars of the region, deep in the Mainz' hillside. The wines we taste will take you along the essentials of local wine culture, history and geography. This will not only be a fun and entertaining evening - you'll also take away insights and understanding of German wines altogether. And of course, this will be a most delicious start to the night as your wines will be paired to typical local snacks. We will have 6 wines to taste, but pairings and specific wines can vary, depending on season and availability.

5.00My sister and I ended up having two tours with him over two days. The first was the Exclusive Wine & Food Tasting in Historic Cellar in Mainz. From the very first moment, he had us hooked with his knowledge and enthusiasm for German wine. The wine he picked for us to try was local and delicious. The food he had for us to sample was equally as good (My favorite was the dip... or the game sausage... I honestly can't decide). We learned so much about German wine and we left the tasting with our minds stuffed with new knowledge and excited for the next days adventure. The following day Jerome took us out into the Rheingau for 3 different stops. The first was at Eberbach Abbey (established 1136!) as still producing wine to this day, albeit with a corporation as an owner instead of the church. We toured the old monastery, which was thrilling and then sampled their white wines. I loved the charm of the place. The second place was a charming little wine store in Rüdesheim. We ordered our lunch here (I highly recommend their charcutier plate). We truly enjoyed the wine tasting here: They had wonderful little specialized wine dispensers that are operated by a coin (that you get at the front). There were 7 rooms and I don't remember how many dispensers per room. We each chose 5 wines to try with Jerome's input. I think my favorite was the Pinot grape I had never heard of before, the Pinot Madeleine. After a truly delightful time and lunch, we departed for our third and final stop, Georg Breuer, also in Rüdesheim. The wines were wonderful, with all the crispness you expect from Germany. We got to see the cellar as well. Our two tours with Jerome were wonderful! He is well worth the money and I can't recommend him enough. Everything was perfect. I can't wait to go back and hire him for more tours (I'd like to explore more of the Pinot Madeleine). Thanks Jerome!

5.00We can not say enough good things about Jerome, his knowledge of wine, and the amazing cellar space in which he hosts wine tasting....we visited Mainz for the Christmas Markets and decided to include a tasting with BottleStops... what a great choice. If you're apprehensive about any language barrier, fear not, his English is excellent. Jerome will be on speed dial for our return to the region!

5.00My husband, daughter, son in law and myself booked the wine tasting tour on our last day in Germany. I wish we had done the tour at the start of our trip. Jerome was so welcoming and taught us more about German wine than we will ever be able to remember. The wine cellar is very unique venue and definitely adds to the experience. Jerome shared his extensive knowledge about wine, wine culture and the agriculture aspects of growing the grapes in a very accessible way. We would take the tour again, if we are back in Mainz.

5.00Fantastic wine tasting of beautiful white and red regional wines of top class with a nice German bubble beforehand, a unique location 5 floors down in the old cellars of Mainz, Jerome did very nice with small appertive snacks, do not expect dinner but tasty local bites. We loved it and worth the detour from the Moselle. Douwe and Sjoerd, the wine lovers from the north of the Netherlands

5.00We could not have had a better time! Jerome is such an excellent host - knowledgeable and passionate about German wines and wine culture and its history. The cellar is such a cool venue and the wines were all excellent, each selected from local wineries with their own stories. Highly recommend for a date night or for a group activity!
