Tvrdava Kastel
The Kastel Fortress is the oldest historical monument in Banja Luka, located on the banks of the Vrbas River. Its foundations date back to Roman times, though the current structure was significantly expanded during the Ottoman period. The fortress served as a military stronghold for centuries and includes stone walls, watchtowers, and inner courtyards. Today, Kastel is a cultural hub, hosting concerts, festivals, and open-air events, offering visitors a scenic and atmospheric glimpse into the city's layered past.
Ferhadija Mosque
The Ferhadija Mosque, also known as the Ferhat Pasha Mosque, stands as a significant monument in Banja Luka, exemplifying 16th-century Ottoman Islamic architecture. Commissioned by Ferhat Pasha Sokolović, the mosque was constructed in 1579 and is considered one of the most successful achievements of Islamic architecture in Bosnia and Herzegovina during that period .
