Your crawl begins in Ipanema’s laid-back core, at Big Nectar, a classic juice bar that locals swear by. Here, tropical fruits are blended into colorful juices — from açaí and graviola to cupuaçu — each one telling a story from a different corner of Brazil. As you sip, your guide reveals how these Amazon-born ingredients became staples of Rio’s beach culture, fueling surfers and families alike.
Praca General Osorio
Step across the street to Praça General Osório, the beating heart of Ipanema’s weekend life. Surrounded by art stalls and street musicians, this square is where generations of locals have gathered for the Sunday Hippie Market since the 1960s. At a small family-run bakery nearby, you’ll taste a warm, puffy margherita pizza — the kind that vanishes before it hits the plate. It’s a bite that captures Rio’s Italian influence and its passion for simple food done perfectly.

Chef Hayza was an amazing guide! Her English was impeccable and, being a native, she had so much knowledge about the food and culture - we were able to get a lot of interesting information about not just the foods that we tried, but also about other questions we had about the history and political climate. We tried so many unique items, including piranha soup and whole pickled garlic cloves (both very good!). We didn't know if we would make it the whole 5 hours since we brought our 7-year old with us, but she enjoyed trying most things also, and Hayza had sweet substitutes for her for the more adult-focused stops. Great tour overall and would recommend!

This was the best tour I’ve been on in Rio, and will be one of the most memorable tours I’ve experienced. Hayza’s curation of restaurant and bar stops was thoughtful, organized, and each stop showcased a different side of the local culture and flavors. Not only was the food delicious, but I don’t think I would have known to try most of them if not from her. She’s engaging, great at including and engaging the whole group, and time flew by with how much fun my partner and I had. I can’t recommend this tour enough—it’s a new standard my partner and I will hold for guided tours. I learned more about Rio and Brazil from this tour than I have on any other tour I’ve been on during my stay, and she made people feel comfortable asking questions in a way that expanded into greater cultural conversations. Honestly, this tour helped me gain a greater appreciation for how food can connect people and help you learn about a place in a way I’m grateful for. Like, I literally made a TripAdvisor account just to review lol.
