Tijuca National Park has a wide variety of plant and animal species, including over 300 species of birds, 2,500 species of trees and plants, around 60 species of amphibians and reptiles, and numerous species of mammals such as the capuchin monkey and the sloth. The entire park is a giant web of hiking trails and an incredible place for trekking.
Parque Lage
Parque Lage is a beautiful park located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Situated at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain in the southern part of the city, the park is a true green oasis amidst the urban hustle and bustle. At the heart of the park is the beautiful neoclassical mansion known as Palácio Lage, built in the early 20th century. The mansion currently houses the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage), where art courses and workshops are offered. The gardens surrounding the Palácio are an invitation for leisurely walks and nature appreciation.

We had an incredible time! Our guide Didi was knowledgeable and friendly, and offered us lots of recommendations for Rio along the way! The hike took us less than 2 hours on the way up and about an hour and a half on the way down.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience hiking to Christ the Redeemer with my guide Paulo in May. This was hands down one of the highlights of my trip! What made this special: Skip the crowds: • By hiking instead of taking the usual public transportation, we completely avoided the tourist masses on the way to and from and monument and had a much more peaceful, authentic experience Incredible nature: • The hike took us through beautiful forest where we spotted monkeys and amazing birds. Paulo was incredibly knowledgeable about the local wildlife and plants, turning the journey into an educational nature walk Convenient service: • Paulo picked me up directly from my Airbnb and dropped me off afterward - no hassle with logistics Perfect duration: • The entire experience lasted about 6 hours, which felt just right Paulo was an excellent guide who really enhanced the experience with his knowledge of the local ecosystem. If you're looking for a more adventurous and less crowded way to visit Christ the Redeemer while learning about Rio's incredible biodiversity, I highly recommend this hiking tour. Highly recommended for: Nature lovers, hikers, anyone wanting to avoid the crowds on the way up and down, and travelers interested in learning about local wildlife.

Our guide was wonderful. My grown son enjoyed chatting with the guide in his intermediate Portuguese on the hike up. We learned that portions of the trail have recently been flattened and (consequently) lengthened which was fine with us because this makes it a medium level hike rather than a difficult one. Saw lots of monkeys and a few interesting birds. We lucked out that most of the cloud cover cleared as we reached the top, so we had excellent views from various overlooks. We wound up taking the train down and paid the R$35 fare, and subsequently took an Uber with him back to his car. The guide kindly dropped us off at the Sugarloaf cable car at the end.

We took this hiking tour with Fábio, and has been amazing! His knowledge of the forest, the animals and how to spot them, the native cultures and the history made the whole hike super interesting. Also the hike in itself was great, the forset is amazing, and taking the hike we were able to see views of rio before the clouds covered everything at the top

A moderately challenging hike that delivers the true essence of the Rio de Janeiro: Carioca Landscapes World Heritage site. I took this hike from Parque Lage up Corcavado Mountain to Christ the Redeemer with guide Thalles, who was great. All the excursion details were perfectly handled but it was Thalles’s knowledge of Rio’s history, culture & biodiversity that was the most impressive. Also, as a native English speaker with not much Portuguese, I was also blown away by Thalles’ bilingual skills — from street slang to conservation technique, his English vocabulary is PhD level. Oh, and great Carnival tips! Highly recommended.

Last day in Rio, I wanted to go up Corcovado hiking, but with a group not going solo, glad I found Rio Natural. Easy to communicate with Daniel to get details. Paulo was a great guide, very knowledgeable and easy going. It took us 4 hrs total roundtrip from the trail head in Parque Lage: 2 hrs up, 1 at Corcovado, 1 going down. It’s a lush jungle, 3 small water falls, we saw monkeys. I would say it’s medium in intensity. We started at 8:30am and saw only 2 people in the trail (so good to be with a group), coming down at noon the trail was a bit busier with many small groups going up. Highly recommended!
