What To Expect
Yorkshire
During the course of the day we will drive through the beguiling, sublimely beautiful and largest county in England, Yorkshire. In fact many simply call it Gods County due to the incredible variety and immense beauty of its landscapes . We will see the extraordinary variety of landscape from the very flat and rural Vale of Yorkshire to the tiny stone villages and rocky limestone crags of the Yorkshire Dales National Park . Along the way we will get out and explore different locations so you can really embrace and experience what a wonderful place this is and never just spend too much time in the vehicle. Nice surprises and sheep sightings are always included! If your trip to the UK includes visits to to the world class cities of London and Edinburgh then you must include Yorkshire as the perfect counter point to demonstrate what extraordinary variety this wonderful country can offer. For most of the day we will be exploring the western side of this enormous county.
Yorkshire Dales National Park
We will journey through this very special national park which in 2021 was named The Best National Park in Europe and the eleventh best in the world by TripAdvisor Travellers Choice best of the best award. It is also the landscape which was the workplace of the worlds most famous All Creatures Great and Small James Herriot.

5.00Andrew was an incredible tour guide and his vehicle was superb. Driving was comfortable and scenery was very insane. It was a private and secluded tour even when in public spaces.

5.00We were traveling to York at the beginning of March and were interested in seeing some sites in the northern part of England, but not interested in driving ourselves. Happily, we found Expedition Yorkshire, and arranged a custom tour with them. Armed with only the information that we wanted to see Hadrian's Wall and visit the Vindolanda archaeological site and museum, Yorkshire Expeditions arranged a full day tour that also included the Bowes Museum, the Yorkshire Dales and catching a glimpse of the marvelous Ribblehead Viaduct with the last few moments of daylight. Andrew was an incredibly engaging and knowledgeable guide, who seemed to know as much about the geopolitics of Northern England 2000 years ago as he did more recent events. He made sure that we took the most picturesque route, found us a great pub before we went to Vindolanda, located a portion of Hadrian's Wall that was not only situated in one of the most stunning views I have seen, but also accessible for someone who had just pulled a hamstring and wasn't up to hiking on the day. Additionally, the car was very comfortable for adult-sized adults, and the car snacks provided were on point. Best value for money of our trip. I would wholeheartedly recommend hiring Expedition Yorkshire for anyone who enjoys both looking at old things and also understanding the context of the world that created them.

5.00A winter trip to the UK doesn’t sound like the most ideal time to visit the Yorkshire Dales. Weather should not hinder you. Arrange a tour with Expedition Yorkshire if you travel to London. Grab a fast train to York and meet up with Andrew. You will not be disappointed, even if it’s raining. It was wonderful to have a tour guide like Andrew not only maneuver through the dales, but share his knowledge of this absolutely, beautiful region of the UK. He tailored this tour to our special interest in the books and series, 'All Creatures Great and Small'. His genuine love of the Dales and skill weaving historical information of the area plus highlighting recognizable 'All Creatures Great and Small' locations was an absolute delight. Too bad we only had one day to soak up just a bit of Andrew’s knowledge. Thank you, Andrew. I’m already making a dream file for a potential York family get-away for our Wisconsin and Slovakia kids. Andrew’s tours are certainly a part of that dream.

5.00We definitely chose the best outfit to experience our all-day excursion to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Our guide Richard was fabulous. He made our trip both informative but very relaxing given we had a young child with us. He was able to incorporate a couple of stops I inquired about from my friend's suggestions. It was very apparent how much Richard loves the Dales, and it made its impression on us. The beauty of the landscape was breathtaking. The best part of the trip was that we never felt rushed, allowing us to soak up everything we saw. By daysend, Richard was much more than our guide. We considered him our friend. Andrew was a delight to work with arranging our day, and Richard, as our guide, was simply the best. We highly recommend taking a trip with Expedition Yorkshire.

5.00Andrew is amazing. We had a great day covering everything we asked for and more. He is knowledgeable, engaging and easy to be with for a whole day. His vehicle is immaculate and very comfortable we were a party of 5 Aussie women and everyone had a great time. We left with an appreciation of the Yorkshire Dales and a heap of great photos. Would thoroughly recommend.

The tour operator was Expedition Yorkshire and Andrew (our guide) was a marvelous narrator displaying an impressive understanding of Yorkshire Dales history and current events. Andrew picked us p at the hotel and we spent the entire day together. Andrew's professionalism and warmth really added to our enjoyment of the tour. I highly recommend "Expedition Yorkshire". You will be impressed.

We couldn't have asked for a finer customized tour that was so beautifully curated by someone with a clear, deep love and affection for this very special part of the world. Andrew is incredibly engaging, and our day-long tour felt like a rolling conversation between friends. He is also a gracious host and was kindly attentive to our needs and desires. We learned so much on this tour. We began the day as fans of James Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small," and ended our extraordinary day as fans of the Yorkshire Dales and Andrew Ward. Truly one of the most beautiful places on earth that is thankful stuck in another, slower, more pastoral age. His deep knowledge and charming presentation of all the filming sights for the acclaimed series delighted us at every turn, making the Dales come alive and proving that the real place and people are every bit as timeless and compelling as the theatrical version. 5.00Andrew has a great depth of detailed knowledge about the areas we visited. The small bus we were transported in, was very clean and well cared for. The 9 hour trip we undertook, covered a wide area of the hills and dales of Yorkshire, including a number of small towns and Castle Bolton, returning via Richmond. We all appreciated Andrew’s very courteous and careful driving, his thoughtful commentary and respectful attention to our travel needs. Anyone visiting York who wants to see the remote countryside could not go wrong if they chose to use his excellent service.
