Here at Menchaca Chocolates we'd like to think we are adventurers continuing to re-define an ancient Pod found 150 miles from the equator. So we decided that to truly understand this magical bean you have to experience it through all your senses: taste, touch, smell, cracking and visual transformation. We developed these Chocolate & Art Workshops to do just that. You will get to know the possibilities and have a chance to make a custom unique Chocolate product and if you choose, design a label or Box to package it in. You can also learn exactly how we make our chocolate in Mr. Menchaca's Micro- batch Chocolate Factory Tour!

This is not a chocolate making class. You don’t actually get any instructions about th chocolate making process. This is an elementary school art class, decorating cheap wooden boxes, with paint markers, (the kind you get at Michael’s). The only portion of this class the involves you in the chocolate process is sprinkling topping on top of melted chocolate that the shop has melted, and poured for you into molds. Save your $. Don’t take this class.

Highly recommend this experience! Went with my husband for our anniversary and we had such a great time creating our signature chocolate bars and creating our own wrapper designs. This is a warm, personal and great thing to do with a fantastic local business. Don’t miss buying some chocolate covered mangos while you’re there!

We were expecting more information about how the chocolate is made. The experience is more of decorating the box than how chocolates are made. We were rushed on the only part where chocolates were prepared… so it is more craft activity than chocolate making class

We had such a wonderful time at this shop! Three of us ladies came for a friends’ outing, and it was the perfect experience from start to finish. We each got to make our own set of three chocolate bars, choosing from four types of chocolate and mixing in our favorite additions like nuts, dried fruit, and spices. It was so much fun to get creative and customize each bar. Afterward, we decorated the small box that would hold our chocolates, and the shop had an incredible variety of supplies to choose from—inks, acrylic paint pens, gel pens, stamps, stencils, washi tape, wood cutouts, and more. It really brought out everyone’s creativity, and we loved making our boxes as unique as our chocolates. Aprons were provided, which made it easy to relax and dive into the fun, and the owners were absolutely delightful—so welcoming, helpful, and kind. We truly enjoyed every minute of this experience and would highly recommend it for a girls’ day out or any creative outing with friends!

We weren’t too sure what to expect when initially booking this during our trip to Santa Barbara, but it turned out to be quite the highlight! One of us loves chocolate and the other loves arts+crafts, so this was a great combo. Most of the time is spent decorating the box you’ll use for your chocolate once’s it’s ready, which doesn’t really take that long and there are so many options and supplies for decorating that you can easily spend a lot of time - they have a great setup outdoors in the shade with great music playing. We were worried this would be some drawn-out tutorial about how chocolate is made, but were pleasantly surprised that we simply got to sample some chocolate, choose the flavors we wanted, adorn it with different toppings, and then wrap it when we were done decorating our boxes. It was convenient walking distance from our hotel, but also had plenty of parking right there if you end up driving. It’s so convenient that if we had more time we’d be tempted to go back for another session - this was a great way to start off the day, just make sure you have a plan for what to do with your chocolate afterwards so that it doesn’t melt sitting in your car!
