Mushroom hunting excursions are available from September 15 until November 15 (weather permitting). We will use knives and sneakers (provided). During your time in Provence you will learn how to distinguish between edible and poisonous mushrooms.
We will hunt for about 10 different varieties, including: ceps, chanterelle, golden chanterelle, mushroom hedgehog, blue stalk mushroom, Tricholoma myomyces, Saffron milk cap, white saddle, elfin saddle, and black trumpet. You'll discover the quiet, unspoiled forests of the area and enjoy the bucolic and relaxed atmosphere of Provence. You will need to be comfortable with that, you do not mind getting muddy.

Our mushroom hunting tours are available on weekends except for French public holidays, from mid-September until mid-November (weather & mushroom depending). The tour lasts at least 3 hours. First we'll give you, in English, a description of the mushroom we will be looking for (with also pictures). Then we will hike the hills of the Luberon in search of fungus and other wild plants. After the hike, a table will be waiting for you with a traditional aperitif (homemade wine, homemade Pastis, homemade Provencal pâté, tapenade, pickled wild mushrooms) and great stories.

This was absolutely the highlight of our trip to Provence with my friends. We visited this absolutely lovely house. The owner was a real stand-up comedian, hilarious guy who speaks very good English we went on a track to ride something. I’ve never done in my life then actually pick grapes off the vine. Which is also something I’ve never done. This was followed by grape stomping in large barrels that Lucy of “I love Lucy” can only be jealous of. This was followed by an absolutely amazing all you can drink wine, cheese, eating, and truffle tasting. While the host told us hilarious stories showed us dances we left drink and bonded all 10 of us. It was an incredible evening something I will never forget. We also tasted their olive oil that you have a chance to purchase there along with truffles and wine. This was the most hospitable and fun experience I had in a long time.

This was a lot of fun and I also learned a lot about mushrooms. And I thoroughly enjoyed eating the mushrooms I had harvested (although several of my companions were hesitant to fully partake in the harvest.

We had an enjoyable & unusual experience with Johann when we joined him on the truffle hunt together with his dogs. It was a first hand experience in discovering how truffles are found & collected & Johann gave us insight into how to enjoy truffles with our food & champagne. It was indeed an activity worth going for. Singapore

I was fortunate to join a group last year on a truffle hunt at Les Pastras. Johann explained the elusive nature of truffles, and why they use dogs for hunting. Following that, we had a live demonstration with two dogs. And, yes they found truffles! But, our morning was not over. We sampled truffles on their own, on bread and butter (yummy) and even on ice cream. Don't miss out this is a fabulous experience.
