Officially opened on 14th November 1963 and has turned into a well-known zoo all around the world. 5 km from the city of Kuala Lumpur, Zoo Negara covers 110 acres around the central lake.

What To Expect
Zoo Negara
Zoo Negara has transformed itself to an open concept zoo which is over 90% of its animal being kept in spacious landscape befitting its nature. 5137 specimens from various species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish from over Asia and Africa. Giant Panda since 21st May 2014 Zoo Negara became Home for two giant pandas named Xing Xing (male) and Liang Liang (female) hailing from Sichuan, China. Both giant pandas were born 23rd August 2006. On 18th August 2015, Xing Xing and Liang Liang get new baby giant panda named Nuan Nuan which means “warm” in Chinese. Nuan Nuan was born less than 15 months after her parents arrived in Malaysia. Liang Liang gave birth to the second Malaysian panda cub on 14th January 2018. 1.00Terrible service from Viator. They did not advise us the supplier is no longer working with them and they wont be doing the tour. Please becareful for Viator we have had this quiet often and the tours cancelled. I am still trying to sort my refund. May operators Viator is using stopped working with them
Great collection of some rare animals including the Giant Panda

4.00Very good collection of some rare animals - flamingos / pelicans walking around the lake, tapirs, wallabies and of course the 2 giant pandas who were the mascots of the Beijing Olympics👍🏻
Not really a pleasant experience with a toddler

3.00Great zoo but definitely a long long walk with a toddler and very tiring. Not enough shady areas and the shuttle service was not offered to us at the entrance. We came to know about it near the end of our journey. The 'photography' service at the entrance should be shortened and the staff should be less insisting to take photos and sell them to you... made our toddler very nervous and tired. Staff at the panda viewing area to be properly trained and be more gentle with clients as they spoke very rudely to ask us to leave our pram and rush inside, we even left our personal belongings in the pram due to pressure.
Brilliant zoo but sadly 1 minute with the baby panda is not enough.

4.00Would like to have spent longer with the beautiful baby panda, unfortunately "tidak boleh". Overall this is a good zoo, would be 5* if the front gate ticketing staff were less prejudiced. We've had several lovely visits with the exception of the ticketting staff bluntly refusing to accept Malaysian government ID cards from people with lighter skin colour. Of course the borders haven't been closed for 18+ months and so we don't obviously actually live here............ as shown on the IC presented......
