Aim was a really knowledgeable guide who didnt just know about the food but also wider history. She is clearly also passionate about the subject which comes through naturally. The food tour was incredible and more than what we hope for.

If you are visiting Chiang Mai, do this tour at the start of your trip! Taking the Northern Flavors Tasting Tour early provided incredible cultural context and background that enriched the rest of our stay. The entire experience was seamless from start to finish, beginning with an easy booking process. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, warm, engaging, and deeply passionate about sharing the region's rich history and culinary traditions. The food itself was amazing. Northern Thai cuisine is distinct and fascinating, and this tour beautifully showcased how it has been shaped by neighboring Myanmar, India, Hunan (China) and traditional Thai influences. We loved learning about (and tasting) the complex layers of flavor, from the rich, aromatic Burmese-influenced curries to the vibrant, herb-forward Lanna specialties. What truly set A Chef's Tour apart was the curation of the stops. Every single place we visited was an authentic gem we would never have found on our own. It felt like a true, authentic cultural experience. This tour was comfortably the highlight of our visit to Chiang Mai. Do yourself a favor, skip the generic food stalls, and let the experts show you the real flavors of the north. Highest possible recommendation!

I was surprised we didn't try or learn about Khao Soi. I did the "A Chef's Tour" in Bangkok's Chinatown and that has been one of the highlights from 2 months in Thailand so far. The food was good and the experience was good, but there wasn't anything that particularly wow'd me by the experience or food. In comparison to the Chinatown tour, I felt it lacked a bit of the explanation of the food and how it ties to Thai culture or the city's culture. That being said, I don't know that I would recommend this activity to another traveler, especially if you only have a couple days in Chiang Mai or Thailand.

I decided to do A Chef’s Tour because I wanted to try different local food options in Chiang Mai. It was a small group of 3 and our guide Aim. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about the places we went, it was clear she loved what she was doing. It was great value because there was leftover food we could take home. It was just a great time. We even got to take pictures with the famous Cowboy Hat Lady after eating at her stall. I’ll be back for the lunchtime tour.

“Muai” (apologies if I’ve misspelled the name!) is an outstanding culinary guide who perfectly blends local history with great knowledge of Northern Thai cuisine. We were picked up at Wat Lok Moli, right on the edge of Chiang Mai’s Old City, and taken on an unforgettable food adventure. Traveling by a traditional songthaew (red taxi truck), we visited fantastic street food spots and two vibrant local markets, sampling a wide variety of delicious Northern Thai dishes along the way. Our group included eight people, including two children, and Muai was incredibly thoughtful—arranging non-spicy versions for the kids and for those of us not used to chili. It made the experience enjoyable and inclusive for everyone. Come hungry! Although portions are small, there is so much to taste that you’ll quickly feel full. Muai also made sure we stayed hydrated, providing water at nearly every stop, which was very much appreciated. This is an absolute must-do tour if you want to truly discover Northern Thai cuisine in an authentic and fun way.
