Tourists can literally "Be in the Clouds" when climbing Volcano Maderas. It is one of the very few volcanoes in Nicaragua where cloud forests grow. They will explore the rich and diverse flora and fauna associated with the cloud forests. They can take in the spectacular view of the island from the viewpoint "El Mirador". In El Porvenir they get a glimpse of the island's past when walking through the petroglyphs. The guide will give a brief history of the volcano at the start of the tour and will provide interesting titbits throughout the tour. A light refreshment will be provided. We provide a fun and interactive experience.

What To Expect

Volcan Maderas

Climb Volcano Maderas, where they can experience cloud forests . The cloud forests are characterized by rich plant and animal life. There are fantastic viewpoints like "El Mirador" which provides spectacular view of the island in general and in particular the view from the isthmus of Santa Cruz to Conception Volcano. Explore the diverse flora and fauna native to the volcano and it's cloud forests. The guide will provide interesting titbits about the flora and fauna. There will be ample of opportunity to take fantastic photos from different viewpoints throughout the climb.

Tough hike in challenging conditions. Cloudy damp day making the path very mucky and slippy. Umberto my guide was brilliant. I would have given up without his quiet support and drive. We made it to the top but couldn't see anything. Finca Magdelana is a lovely spot to start from. Friendly atmosphere and wonderful coffee

Amazing tour! The hike up Maderas is really cool, you also get to see the cloud forest. I would highly recommend going with Happy Tours!!

My husband and I did this hike. Challenging but fun and highly recommend Happy tours. Very responsive and easy to contact using WhatsApp. Martín our guide went above and beyond, such a great time!

Don was a such good guide. Our motobike was down when we arrive to it and the clutch was broke. We needed to be 5km away with Don in 15 minutes but we couldn’t do it. I wrote to Don and he find us a taxi immediatly (at 5:45 AM). When we arrived at the joining point, he gives us some juice and medicine because we were sick. He call the guy of our motorcycle rent and fixed everything. When we went up, Don was funny and stopped whenever we wanted. Finally, Don was awesome and we passed a wonderful experience.

We spent several weeks on Ometepe and explored practically the entire island with Donald. He has an incredible amount of knowledge about the flora and fauna as well as the history and culture of Nicaragua. All tours were perfectly organized. Donald's hospitality and his commitment to showing us his hometown of Ometepe remain unique and unforgettable. I can recommend him as a tour guide without reservation and with all my heart 100%!

I have already experienced a few tours and guides. This one was incredibly great! The climb was very challenging, but the guide made it very interesting. We saw lots of animals and he told us about the history of the island. It was very entertaining. The view from the summit was very beautiful. The descent was very leisurely and we were able to appreciate parts of the route better. The short stop at the Mirador was worth it. This view is unforgettable.

I got a great deal booking directly with the company through their WhatsApp number. My guide for Volcán Maderas was Donald and he was great. He kept me motivated and then safe when footing was a bit sketchy. Even though it was too foggy to see anything from the top and too foggy to make it worth hiking down to the lake, I’m really glad Happy Tours was able to get me a guide so I could hike a volcano before I left Ometepe!!

A beautiful but challenging tour for me. Super friendly guide and reliable pick-up. The guide is young and motivated. I'm not in particularly good shape at the moment and would have liked a helping hand now and then. I found the hike to the crater lake to be a highlight. Wonderful and unique for me. I strongly recommend proper hiking boots (muddy and slippery) and a jacket.
