Akrotiri Archaeological Site

Step back nearly 4,000 years of ancient Akrotiri on Santorini. Explore the well-preserved ruins of this one-time Minoan settlement, destroyed by a volcano in around 1450 BC. Inspect the excavated houses and buildings, see the remnants of kitchens and drainage systems, and read about the vivid frescoes that once graced the walls. Learn about the long-ago inhabitants, how their town was buried under ash, and how Minoan society and culture was far ahead of mainland European civilization at the time. Akrotiri, buried under volcanic ash in around 1450 BC. Walk along the main street. Past ruins of shops and houses, some once painted in colorful frescoes. Based on the description and cost we expected a wonderful guided tour. We ended up with a lackluster driver that added no insights. The driver was late, asked us to walk to meet his in van in locations convenient to him, had to stop to get us water (after a request) and only occasionally discussed a destination without providing insights. Very poor experience since if we wanted a driver only that's what we would have booked at significantly less cost.

We didn’t get to do this tour and the tour provider didn’t respond to our messages. We were on the NCL Epic and the ship was diverted to do a humanitarian rescue of 63 persons on a disabled boat. We had to reroute to a different port and drop them off so we weren’t going to make it to Santorini. Passengers were not informed until 8:30am. I immediately sent a message to the tour operator to let them know. No response. An hour later I sent another message…no response. I sent a quick Please respond to which they said we are all out on tours and will respond later. Ok. Never heard from them again. I used the Viator app to request a refund, tour operator declined any refund. And still no message from them. So I reached out to Viator with the letter from NCL, and a link to an online article as we made national news with the rescue. Viator opened the refund request and reached out to your operator again. They still said no refund. However Viator gave us a full refund, which was most appreciated. Even though we missed Santorini, we will make plans to come visit again in the future. However I won’t tour with this company due to a lack of a response at all from them. I will book again with Viator though

Thanos is an excellent host with a lot of feeling for the needs of his customers. He anticipates the needs, meets the expectations and brings that level of knowledge/info to the places visited that he needs. In addition, he is a calm, defensive motorist. Even his culinary tips turned a beautiful one into a wonderful holiday.

Within 4 hours nearly 80% of Santorini was covered. Driver keeping in view our walking limitations took us to all the places where he can take. Got good photo also.
