Our trip to Materuni was great! The local villagers are extremely friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about their local crops and coffee. We really enjoyed the waterfall hike, having coffee with the villagers, and getting to know them. It was a very authentic experience as I found many other things to do in Tanzania don’t really involve interacting with the locals as heavily as this tour did. Our driver Eli was great as well. It wasn’t easy to get to the village, but he did a great job navigating the rocky roads.

This tour was such a great experience! Our guide was knowledgeable and shared so much about the local agriculture and plants, which made the tour even more interesting. The Materuni Waterfall was absolutely beautiful, and the coffee tour (with the chance to roast and taste) was fun and hands-on. We also enjoyed a delicious local lunch. The day ended with a relaxing soak in the Chemka Hot Springs. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a mix of nature, culture, and relaxation!

Our guide Gifty was excellent! Personable, professional, knowledgeable, and fun which made the long drive from Arusha easy. The six of us asked many questions and Gifty was able to give us much insight to Africa. Guide Calvin at Kilomanjaro was great. Coffee making was very interesting. Lunch was delicious. This excursion was a long day packed with activity.

We went on a 6 day safari, and went to the Materuni Waterfall on the last day. It was very beautifull. After that we had lunch with local people and a coffeetour. Both were very nice and interesting! Our guide was Elinami, a very good guy. I would recommand this tour for sure!

Great day! Especially the waterfall and coffee tour were better than expected. For the waterfall hike, make sure to have good shoes as it might be slippery/muddy after rain. The hot springs in the afternoon were okay as well but the real highlight was the first half of the day.

Our party of myself, my husband two adult children (aged 19 and 22) stayed in Moshi at the end of a Safari in Tanzania as an alternative to the usual Zanzibar. I booked this day trip from the UK in order to have some activity to do whilst in Moshi. It was a great day out and well worth doing. Materuni Waterfall is stunning. It is reached by hiking for about an hour. You need to be reasonably fit to do this as there is a bit of uphill but it was not majorly challenging. It was very muddy when we did this trip (June 2025), and you definitely need decent footwear – boots preferably – some of our party had trainers on but luckily we were able to hire wellington boots for a small charge prior to the walk beginning, and we really needed them. The scenery all along the walk is lovely and the waterfall itself if breath taking. The waterfall walk ends at a coffee plantation where the local villagers show you how coffee is picked, roasted and ground. It was very interesting and coffee was delicious. Lunch is prepared and served by the local people at the end of the coffee tour. After lunch we were taken to Kikuletwa hot springs which has crystal clear water and is warm to swim in. Our guide Ely was fantastic. He picked us up promptly from our hotel and was very informative and knowledgeable. He was very pleasant company all day and looked after our things while we were swimming. I would recommend this tour.

I had a great local experience today with my tour company driver, Elinami; my Materuni tour guide, Zahir; and the Materuni village leader, Justin. Elinami was my driver for two days and made sure I was doing okay. He taught me many Swahili words, and people were surprised that I could speak some Swahili in such a short time. I loved the nature and learned how the locals make coffee from scratch. Zahir shared educational information with me about Arabica coffee beans, plants, and waterfalls. Did you know that raw coffee berries taste sweet? I tried one! I recommend wearing hiking shoes or footwear with good traction. I fell twice going downhill because my shoes didn't have enough grip. The village leader, Justin, was very personable and responsible, taking care of both the guests and the village residents. He started making coffee at age 15 and is a very pleasant person to be around. Overall, I had a wonderful time enjoying a local meal for lunch and singing my favorite song, "A Cup of Christ in the Morning," with these guys. They became so dear to me that I didn't feel like a tourist but a local. Asante sana!

We did the materuni falls a few days ago with Ely. He took us to the falls but the day was really bad since it was raining a lot. He helped us to resolve the cloth situation and waited for the weather to get better so we could do the trekking properly. He totally saved the day. Thank you so much Ely for your patience and your kindness, you did an amazing job

What an amazing day adventure. A short hike thru stunning mountain scenery to the beautiful Falls. Then on the return to the village we were served a beautiful traditional lunch followed by a fun afternoon of roasting our own coffee and sitting with the locals having some quality fun, coffe and conversation. Our guide Elinami was great. Thanks again Serengeti African Tours. You've been amazing.
