On a grey and damp Sunday afternoon this was the place to be! First visit and was a little shocked at the entrance ticket price, especially as it’s extra if you want an audio guide or even one you download to your phone. I find this rather cheeky so decided to just wander around the rooms at our own pace. I know the ticket allows us to return, however we’re not local and unlikely to be in Brighton again any time soon. Some of the rooms stopped me in my tracks and I had to remember to breathe. The decor, the colours, the scale, imagining them full of people talking and dancing? Even the kitchen tree pillars, who does that? The room guides were friendly and helped with pointing out little details. They didn’t even laugh at us taking photos of the chandeliers by setting our camera and phones on the floor. Unfortunately I didn’t really feel that the majority of the colour exhibits added anything. Sometimes the garish LED lighting was a distraction and the venue would have been just as interesting without them. We did stop for a drink in the attached coffee shop, mainly because it was chucking it down outside. Also braved the gardens briefly, where I was so disappointed to find that what I expect to be a lake (I’d seen photos of the building reflected in water) turned out to be a teeny tiny pond.

Such an exciting building. An original. Well maintained. The audio guide was good, not too much or too little. Some staff let it down. One sat using her mobile phone. Another two stood chatting. Didn't feel approachable.

Download the audio guide or use the guide through your phone otherwise you will miss so much about the detail and history. We spent 2 hours walking through and it was amazing

If you go to Brighton and like castles, this is a must. My wife and I have seen many castles through the years, but nothing like this. Indian inspired on the outside, Chinese inspired on the inside made by someone who didn’t really know what that required. With the result of som European heritage in there too. We really enjoyed the history and the view

It's beautiful. Some oriental style rooms are wonderful. If you are visiting the South/South East of England it is a must-see

We couldn’t have a couple of days in Brighton and not go to the Royal Pavilion. It was a lovely couple of hours at a slow stroll and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fabulously extravagant and some stunning chandeliers, to see us to believe. Definitely worth a visit. I booked this through Virgin experience with a cream tea at the wine cellar. I will review that section separately. Suffice to say, we were not the only ones to think the wine cellar was at the Pavilion, it is not, and that experience along warrants its own review!

The venue is world class. Management need to address staff who are totally questionable in their duties. I explained I needed due to health issues where I nearly lost my life explained to a very nice Ayrshire lady I would need to be considered for a very slightly different self guided tour. Indeed she did this and conveyed a message to her college who provided excellent and professional expertise. Then sadly I was confronted by a most aggressive lady who failed to listen to her colleges. She utterly refuses to acknowledge my greeting to say good morning. But went on to interrogate me if I should not enter her space. I explained my medical situation but was dismissed. I hope management address this. She let her team down. Sadly takes one person. I do genuinely hope my comments are seen constructive and helpful. This is a U.K. treasure which should be proudly admired.
