This was an amazing trip!!! 10/10 and would highly recommend! The whole day was amazing! And the views on the beach, the water, the scenery is magical! Looked like a postcard and water looked straight out of a bottle it was so clear! The boat trip on the way back was amazing, with great party vibes and just an enjoyable boat journey back to mainland! Our guides Eduado and Alex were brilliant, really nice and informative and took care of the group. The food on the beach was amazing and unlimited drinks! Make sure you bring suncream as it’s a lot of time in the sun, bring snacks for the coach journey to and from your hotel (for us it was a 2 hour drive which wasn’t a problem as it was comfy and air conditioned) and sandals you don’t mind getting really sandy etc Also bring a underwater phone cover as you see starfish!

  • Find another way to the island.

The advertisement is false. There is no open bar in the sense of drinks - it is rum and coke and rum and sprite. That’s it! The bus was cramped and needed to be cleaned. The speedboat ride back was bumpy. The only highlight was Alex, our guide, and the bus driver. Even the lunch Buffett was trash!

  • 18 hour day for 2 hours on crowded beach

Do not go! 18 hours. 2hours on crowded beach. Chicken and pork over cooked, fish undercooked. Tour guide talks about how good Brcelo and Brugal rum is and then they serve you some Don Ron paint thinner.

This was a great trip, I only marked it down to 4 stars due to the mess around at the end. We were picked up on time from our hotel by a comfortable coach. We stopped at a few hotels to collect other people, and then randomly at the roadside to collect some people from a van which was weird & felt a little uncomfortable as we didn’t know what was going on. Once we were properly on our way, our tour guide gave us some information & history about Saona Island & the Dominican which was really interesting. We stopped at a shop on the way for refreshments & to use the bathroom, there were also souvenirs available to buy here. At the port we got on a boat to take us out 5 mins to the catamaran. The catamaran cruise was lovely & really cool, a really enjoyable experience (although this was marred slightly by some very loud, very drunk women on board). The onboard photographers made sure to get photos of everyone & captured some nice memories. These were available to buy - $180 for all photos, so expensive, but as expected. We stopped at the natural pool which was beautiful, really shallow & warm. We got to see loads of big starfish, a stingray & a turtle. After about 45 mins we carried on to the island. Such a stunning place! Literal paradise. We were guided to the other side of the island (about a 5 min walk through the jungle which was very cool) to get to the beachy side. Lunch wasn’t great, but there were cold drinks on offer which were much needed. We had a couple of hours to explore & do our own thing, take photos etc before meeting up with the group for our return journey. Unfortunately this is where things started to unravel, & this was because of several extremely drunk people in our group - they were throwing up & very unwell (from too much alcohol!) & it was clearly not safe for them to return on the speedboats, as most of them could barely walk. The speedboat trip was far from enjoyable - it felt unsafe & I was really quite scared for our safety, especially with a young child. The driver was clearly annoyed that some of the group were being sick on his boat, & we got the impression he was driving it more erratically than was necessary to make them feel worse - not ideal for the rest of us who had small/young children with us. We stopped a couple of times as something was going on on one of the other boats (you go out on 1 catamaran & come back on 3 speedboats). Eventually we made it back to port, but it was a stressful & really quite frightening journey as it felt like we were going to get thrown into the sea at high speed at any moment. Once we were back on the coach & about to set off, one of the passengers said the person she was with wasn’t there & she went off to look for him with the tour guide so we had to wait. We then had a further 2 false starts (setting off & then turning back) before eventually we got going. This wasted nearly 2 hours. The journey back to the hotel was around 1.5 hours so this was far from ideal. Overall the experience on the catamaran & the island was great, but everything from leaving the island was awful. I don’t blame the company or tour guide for the behaviour of some of the passengers, but I do think the speedboat drivers should be encouraged to be safer, especially when there are children present.
