FAME is annually the #1-rated boat in Salem and the #1 outdoor activity in the entire town, per TripAdvisor. Don't miss the very best of what Salem has to offer! There's more to our town than witches!
FAME is a full-scale replica of a privateer schooner from the War of 1812 that captured over 20 prizes! We sail up to five times a day between May and October from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem.
On board our traditional gaff-rigged schooner, you'll get a chance to raise the sails and even steer the boat as we sail Salem Sound and talk about the fisherman, traders, and privateers that played such a central role in the saga of Salem, and of the young United States.
This is a great hands-on adventure — but you can also just sit back and enjoy a beverage and take it all in as we cruise past the historic forts and lighthouses of Salem, Beverly, & Marblehead.
Note: although the captain & crew have plenty to tell you, this is NOT a narrated tour! No children under five allowed.
Service animals allowed
Public transportation options are available nearby
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
Suitable for all physical fitness levels
Children under five are not allowed.
At the farthest point of our sail, we may be 45 minutes from the dock — and from medical services!

I wanted to like it because it was the most expensive "excursion" or tour I had booked while visiting Salem, but it was a huge letdown and was not the thing to do solo. It was essentially a booze cruise and had very tight and close places to sit. Taking a seat on the cooler was not a wise idea, as I kept having to stand. The cannon shot was the best part, but I wish the guides had provided more details about the history along the coastline.

This was the first time that my friend and I had visited Salem. We decided to take a trip on the Fame. The ship was gorgeous, and the staff was VERY friendly and knowledgeable. They answered questions we had and shared their experiences. They shared the history of the ship, the area and the people. They provided drinks and snacks to those that wanted them. The adventure was fun, albeit a little chilly. We highly recommend sailing on the Fame if you get the opportunity. We would like to do it again in warmer weather.

The people who ran the Fame and the event were friendly, knowledgeable, and personable. Very much enjoyed that it was a smaller group on board and it was a nice trip. If you choose, you can help hoist the sails and participate or you can just enjoy the ride!

We did the sunset cruise, and it was awesome. Everyone from the ticket taker to the captain and crew were great. They spoke about the history of the ship and Salem. I would take the cruise again, loved it.

First time on any boat, and it was a great and relaxing experience. I enjoyed the bits of history and information. The crew was welcoming and attentive and made the journey to and back very enjoyable. I had wanted to do something other than the spooky tours since I've already done them in the past, and this was definitely worth it. I will definitely do this again!

My fifth time out on the Fame, my son's first time! Captain Mike and the crew were great! Very knowledgeable and helpful getting me aboard because of my disability. It was cool but sunny, just a lovely day!
