Join our small group shore excursion from the port of Katakolon with our fully air-conditioned vehicle (minibus or coach) with skip-the-line tickets included. Drive for 45 minutes from Katakolon to Olympia with on board commentary from your guide. Upon arriving to Olympia enjoy a guided tour of the archaeological site and museum with an officially licensed English speaking tour guide. Then you will have free time to explore the modern town of Olympia before returning back to the port. We always make sure you will return to the port before "all aboard" time.
The starting time of the tour is subject to the cruise ship's arrival time. If the ship for example arrives at 09:00, the tour will start at 09:30 instead of 08:30.

What To Expect
Archaeological Site of Olympia
In the archeological site, among several other remains of important buildings, you will see the gymnasium and the palaestra, the round Philipeion, the workshop of Phidias where the gold and ivory statue of Zeus was built, the temples of Zeus and Hera, the altar where the Olympic torch is being lit in the modern days and the ancient Olympic stadium.
Archaeological Museum of Olympia
In the archeological museum are housed all finds that were excavated from the archeological site. Bronze and clay offerings ( tripods and figurines ) , armor, vases, the tools and cup from Phidias's workshop, the gorgeous Hermes by Praxiteles, the Nike by Paeonios and the very impressive and very well preserved classical statues from the pediments of the temple of Zeus, etc.

5.00Excellent tour of the archaeological sites and the museum. There is some shade at the site, but make sure you take a hat or umbrella and plenty of water as it gets very hot.

5.00We were lucky enough to get Zoe as our guide. She’s a trained archeologist and knew an incredible amount of detail about the archeological site. The transportation was top notch and the tour ran right on schedule. Definitely take the lunch option if it’s offered. The food was authentic and very good.

5.00Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide (I think Shelly was her name) was extremely knowledgeable and had a good understanding of archeology and the history of Greece. She organised our small group so that we did not get stuck with the masses of 40+ people bus tourists and we had a very relaxing time and back well in time for our ships departure. She also was independent and not pushing any agendas!

1.00We were unable to take the excursion, because Highwinds presented our cruise ship from landing. We reported this both by text and email on the morning our cruise announce to us that we could not land. We asked for a confirmation of your receiving our communication, that our excursion needed to be canceled, but we have not heard back.
