What To Expect
We are the oldest operational Brewery in New Zealand, and the only site to have an historic Brew Floor and state of the art Brewery housed within the same location. The Speight’s Brewery is also the spiritual home of New Zealand’s biggest beer brand, attracting over 25,000 visitors per year to experience the “Pride of the South”; as one if Dunedin’s most popular tourist attractions we are looking forward to welcoming you to our site. After an extensive remodel in 2017 we are now excited to be able to offer a range of Tour packages to suit our diverse market. We have found that combining our experience with a hearty meal at the Ale House is the perfect combination for travelers looking for a truly authentic experience at this iconic Dunedin venue. During our 60-minute tour guests will learn about the history of the Brewery; touch, smell and taste their way through our Heritage building before finishing up in the Tasting Room for a 30-minute Tasting – we will even include how to pour the perfect beer. Finish off with a 2-course meal at the Speight’s Ale House, including a glass of your newly discovered favourite beer.

5.00Our tour with Annika was super engaging and a really enjoyable experience, definitely a highlight of our trip. It was a super organic experience and really engaged us through the different steps of the beer making process. Plus ending with a tasting was pretty good.

5.00Our tour guide Marty was great, kept us amused with some interesting anecdotes and was a wealth of information. The beer tasting proved that fresh is best, it was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food at the Ale House was brilliant, best seafood chowder ever! It’s a big tick from us.

5.00I highly recommend doing this tour if you're ever visiting Dunedin or even if you're a local looking for a great day/night out! It's by far the best tour I've ever been on. It was very interesting, informative, and a lot of fun. Our guide, Thomas, was extremely knowledgeable and took us through the brewery explaining the beer making process and the history behind it along the way. The beer tasting was a great opportunity to put the whole story together at the end of the tour. There was a huge selection of different varieties and flavors on offer in the tasting room with plenty of time to sample them in a relaxed setting. The entry fee also gave us a 10% discount at the Speights merch store (which we took advantage of), which was full of high-quality items, not the cheap gimmicky crap you normally see in a gift shop.. We opted to add the 2 course dinner and drink to our tour, and it certainly did not disappoint. The service at the Speights Alehouse was exceptional as always, and we were seated in one of the best tables even though there was a private function happening that night. The food was top-notch and came from the kitchen in a very timely manner.. There were also a lot of options on the menu to choose from to suit any taste. The value for money was honestly outstanding. We would do the tour again just for the tasting and dinner because you got so much bang for your buck. To purchase everything separately would have cost a lot more than the price of the full tour package, plus you get to look around this incredible building that is steeped in so much amazing history. Thank you to Speights and to our guide, Thomas, for having us. You'll be seeing us again really soon! Cheers!!
