  • A day of being a mermaid in water

    - Review from Tripadvisor

Gabby was an amazing guide. She’s so knowledgeable about El Salvador and is always open to hearing and answering our questions. The hike is DIFFICULT especially when it’s a super hot day. I recommend taking a bamboo stick if there’s any available. Before stating the hike, you will have the opportunity buy snacks / water at the mini store and use the bathroom for 0.25 cents. If you decided to not get anything and regret it after, don’t you worry! After 10-15 min there will be a man who owns a property who sells snacks/ drinks and allows you to use the bathroom for 0.25 cents. The hike is very tiring, and it is steep as you head down. Please follow what the guide tells you to do for your own safety. Take it slow if you need to. Once you are at the waterfall, it is so beautiful and refreshing. The hike back is a different path which is less difficult but it’s not easy. I repeat, take your time and take your breaks. But was it worth it? YES! El tunco was a beautiful time. Please try the pupusas from Pupuseria del sol. They are amazing ! They are many food spots, souvenir stores and activities you can go through and it’s a great time. The ocean waves are great for surfing not swimming. They are very harsh. Be careful. Def recommend doing this tour if you want a bit of both waterfall and beach in one day.

  • Beautiful waterfall and views

The views and the waterfall was amazing. Diego is my absolutely favorite, please request him and Freddy to be your guides. Please beware of that hike, if you are a beginner you may have difficulty climbing back up. Diego was patience, kind, and very helpful and because of his patience I was able to complete the hike with confidence. Be sure to pack water, a handheld fan, good balancing sneakers and sun screen.

  • Lovely but extremely difficult

Honest review here. Please read carefully: the hike to and from the waterfall is no joke. It’s an advanced level trek, and I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners. The trail is steep and physically demanding. At the start, you’ll descend toward the waterfall, which takes about 45 minutes. The real challenge comes on the way back up it took my group an hour and a half to climb out. Depending on the route your guide chooses, there may be very little shade and only a slight breeze. Be prepared: wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water, a snack for energy, a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. A big thank you to our tour guide, Diego, and local guide, Freddy. They were incredibly patient, supportive, and understanding of how tough this hike was for our group. If you’re an experienced or moderately fit hiker, I’d recommend it. If not, proceed with caution. We saw people from other groups who needed to be rescued, so take that seriously.

The hike down to the waterfalls is intense. So wear proper shoes. But once you get to the falls, its well worth the hike. It was about a 45min hike down. Going back up was super intense. Those mountains are super steep. But our tour guide Diego was extremely patient and friendly with us. El Tunco beach was beautiful and there are plenty of places to eat, drink, and shop.

David our tour guide was great! He was on time for the pick up and was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. He took great videos and pictures while we were jumping into the pools. He also took us to a delicious restaurant for lunch! **Warning** this hike is not easy! I’ve been on waterfall hikes in a few tropical countries, and this by far was the most brutal one I’ve been on. Getting down is fairly easy despite being very steep (we went in the dry season.) Getting back up will test your fitness! Nothing in the description prepared us for how strenuous this hike would be. Wear good shoes or hiking shoes, no sandals!

Very good excursion with Diego. The Tamanique Falls are superb and deserved, it climbs to come back but hey without being a great athlete I did And I swam there, the water is not cold. Then El Tunco, beautiful beach with warm water and waves.

This was a great first day tour of El Salvador! The locations were nice and Osmaro was a great guide, always explaining things and reccomending places when asked. He goes above and beyond and definitely deserves five stars!
