Asakusa

Asakusa (浅草) is the center of Tokyo's shitamachi (literally "low city"), one of Tokyo's districts, where an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades survives. Asakusa's main attraction is Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century. The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.

What a fantastic day! Our guide Sachi created a personalized itinerary that exceeded all of our expectations! She has such great knowledge of local customs and culture and shared so many interesting stories with us. She went out of her way to research anime/video game stores to match our son's interests. We truly appreciated her efforts. We had an amazing lunch overlooking Sky Tree and the river on her recommendation as well. Definitely a 100/10 experience!

Easy communication before our meeting. Emiko is a lovley lady and first gave us an overview of Asakusa from the rooftop opposite of the shrine. She also explained in detail about the history, customs and behaviors. Her English is very good and we really enjoyed this short tour together with her. Arigato gozaimas Emiko!
