Jardins du Chateau de Versailles
In 1661 Louis XIV entrusted André Le Nôtre with the creation and renovation of the gardens of Versailles, which he considered just as important as the Palace. Work on the gardens was started at the same time as the work on the palace and lasted for 40 or so years. During this time André Le Nôtre collaborated with the likes of Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Superintendant of Buildings to the King from 1664 to 1683, who managed the project, and Charles Le Brun, who was made First Painter to the King in January 1664 and provided the drawings for a large number of the statues and fountains.
Palace of Versailles
The Palace of Versailles has been listed as a World Heritage Site for 30 years and is one of the greatest achievements in French 17th century art. Louis XIII's old hunting pavilion was transformed and extended by his son, Louis XIV, when he installed the Court and government there in 1682. A succession of kings continued to embellish the Palace up until the French Revolution.
Fees for garden: This option includes the garden entrance when the garden are not free.

Worst tour guide ever; I am an American senior citizen. She insulted me and my family while trying to take a tour at Versailles in Paris. She started yelling at us, claiming we were in the wrong meeting spot when were at the Louis IV statue; the designated meeting spot. She only approached us after we called Viator to ask where or guide was and Viator contacted her. We had no info on our guide: no name, no tel, nothing. She had no item identifying her as a guide visible. She did not pronounce my name correctly, which made the name she was using unknown. She then walked away from us and demanded we follow her in a loud and offensive manner drawing the attention of surrounding visitors. We indicated that her tone and manner were not acceptable. We told her we no longer wanted her as our guide, I called Viator to inform of the situation. Viator told us we did not have to accept her. Nevertheless she went and bought 4 tickets anyway; obviously to attempt to guarantee her fee. She is a women with issues. I intend to demand a refund from Viator.
