Walk alongside thousands of penguins on Isla Magdalena and see the diverse fauna of Isla Marta
Cruise the Strait of Magellan to the Magdalene and Marta Islands. Magdalene Island hosts over 40,000 penguins each year and Marta Island hosts over 1,500 sea lions. We begin with this unique adventure, after checking in at our office, we head towards Bahia Laredo by transfer to embark on speedboats; for 45 minutes towards Magdalena Island, where we will disembark 1 hour with our guide to know the natural habitat of the Magellanic Penguins, in the largest colony in South America. We continue our journey to Marta Island to see Sea Lions (weather permitting), imperial cormorants and hundreds of southern seagulls. Then return to the pier and Punta Arenas. We'll also have a chance if luck goes with us to be able to spot Southern Dolphins, Overa Tonins and Sei Whales.

Highly recommend and exceeded my expectations. I could have spent hours on the island. Great guide too. It was really windy and cold so dress in layers. The penguins and their babies were amazing!

Fabulous guides. So fun to see the penguins. The captain was great. All went smoothly and professionally. We were lucky to have a very good day weather wise. I think I can imagine why they have the boat they have due to pretty rough seas a lot of the time. Didn’t love being inside the little boat with the fuel fumes. But, overall a really wonderful excursion. Seeing the sea lions and a few elephant seals was also really cool. We took our 3 year old son. I was worried there wouldn’t be a kid sized life jacket, but there was. And they were really great about helping him on and off the boat and making sure he was safe. Just in case anyone reading this review has little ones they wanted to take along.

Seeing the penguins in their natural habitat was amazing! They were just adorable...some looked like they were marching, others were singing, some were in and out of their nests while others were just lying on the ground soaking up the sun. Wonderful. In addition, there were huge colonies of imperial cormorants, lots of very large sea gulls and geese. After visiting with the penguins, we went over to Marta Island and saw some massive sea lions as well as young ones playing in the water. All in all a great day. The crew and guide from Solo Expediciones were fantastic...in fact, at the beginning of the boatbride, the crew member whistled and dolphins came along side the boat. All in all, we saw a lot of wildlife. The only warning I would give is that the ride can be rather bumpy...luckily, I had taken dramamine before starting out and that helped a lot. So for those whose sea legs are not that strong, I suggest you do the same.

The penguins were so cute and adorable. The day was windy, and highly recommend dressing extra warm with gloves and a wooly cap.

We did two tours with Solo Expediciones while staying in Punta Arenas, a tour to Magdalena Island to see Magellanic penguins, and a Patagonian wildlife tour. Both tours were well organized and immensely enjoyable. The tour to Magdalena Island involved bus, ferry and walking on the island, and went very smoothly. It was a wonderful and memorable experience to get close-up viewings of Magellanic penguins. For the half-day wildlife tour to the Patagonian pampas, Victoria was our and she was excellent. She gave us a very nice introduction to the birds of Patagonia, and we saw a variety of interesting birds including rhea and condors. We highly recommend both tours.

The guide was well informed and shared lots of interesting information with us. He was friendly and kind. The boat did a great job in getting us close to Marta island and the seal lion there.
